Day After Boos, Palin Skips Nod To Clinton
Posted: Sunday, August 31, 2008 7:18 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Matthew E. Berger
O’FALLON, MO -- While Gov. Sarah Palin gave essentially the same speech today as she has twice before, one big thing was missing -- any reference to Hillary Clinton.

Palin, the presumptive Republican vice presidential nominee, spoke alongside McCain and two former Republican presidential challengers -- Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney -- at a minor league baseball stadium here.

- snip -

After that, she went back to the stump speech she delivered on Friday and Saturday. But she skipped the entire section in which she highlighted the achievement of having a woman on the ticket -- as well as her praise for those who came before her, Geraldine Ferraro and Hillary Clinton. Yesterday, when campaigning in Pennsylvania, she received some boos from the audience when Clinton’s name was mentioned.

It is unclear why the campaign cut the paragraphs, which were widely praised Friday for appealing to Clinton supporters who may feel disenfranchised by the Obama campaign, especially after Clinton was passed over for the vice presidential nomination.

1. "especially after Clinton was passed over for the vice presidential nomination"
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 08:34 PM by Zhade
She wasn't passed over. She didn't want it enough to fight for it (or allow vetting).

This is just bullshit to inflame low-info voters.

13. So she was asked for vetting info?
Because I heard she wasn't. Has the story changed?

Understand, I didn't want her as Veep. But I find it humorous that so many of you seem a touch sensitive about the issue.

And I just LOVE the way you have made her not being chosen Veep as being entirely her fault.

You never learn.

15. I don't know that anyone knows
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 09:23 PM by Spiffarino
...except for the Obama and Clinton camps. The "was she/wasn't she" business has never been addressed properly as far as I'm concerned.

Somebody came out right before the Biden pick and said they hadn't even vetted her. The next thing I heard was they wanted to, but she wouldn't release financial information and that killed it. Then I heard Hillary didn't want it to begin with.

Whatever the case, it's doubtful she was passed over out of spite or indifference. If it were going to work out, I think it would have because a lot of us thought she'd make it a dream ticket (yes, me included). That the Repubes are making such a big deal out of her being "passed over" makes me even more suspicious that it was no such thing.

Deadender all the way - if your comments don't exult Clinton, they're viewed as insulting her.

Can't wait for the first (and only?) press conference. Do you think McCain will keep her from the press?

10. she will be kept from the press at all costs
What do you bet there will be no vice presidential debates? I expect to have, instead of debates, some sort of Q&A, where she and Biden are asked questions like, "Why is family important to you?", "Should kids take drugs?", "What do you love the most about America?". If they did have a debate, the only saving grace for the McCain/Palin team could be that it would look horrible when Biden delivers a verbal thrashing in a VP debate like we have never seen before ("oh, the poor dear, being picked on like that").

27. Don't be shocked if she pulls a Harriet Miers!
I'm fairly certain at this point that most of the "short list" gave John a polite pass on the offer. This strikes me as another Harriet Miers - someone wildly unfit for the position to give cover with "see, I appointed a woman who hates abortion". If she retracts her acceptance for "personal reasons" to open the door for Romney or Joe, don't be shocked.

23. just wait for the change of format, or at least expect low-ball questions
Actually having a real debate would involve a presentation of facts - the media will not ever report the facts, because facts are biased in the Democrats' favour.

24. Narcissitic - you nailed it.
Only an extremely ambitious woman goes on the campaign trail with a 5 month old baby. Only a narcissist claims that the will break the glass ceiling that Hillary "put cracks in".

There is so much evidence that this woman is twisted, it's not even funny. Between the Milk Maid issue, her brother-in-law, and shooting at wolves from airplanes, she gives me the shivers. I hope it all comes out and bites her, long before Biden even has to.

21. Even if the Founders actually DID recite the Pledge
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 09:56 PM by RufusTFirefly
(and that would be quite a feat since it wasn't written until 1892 -- by a Christian socialist), the phrase "under God" wasn't added until the mid-1950s during the height of the Red hysteria.

Yup, she's an idiot.

But that will make her more real to other idiots, who will then vote for her.

9. Note to Gov. Palin.
You are now thoroughly in the pit of vipers.
You have no friends, but the ones that you take with you.
Keep your extreme christian views. These will help you avoid other fascist criticisms.
Keep to the script, and blame the Democrats for every conceivable failing, even if the failing is your own fault.
Lie, and smile about it.
Call your opponents soft on terrorism.

No! I am not trying to help Gov. Palin. Just being silly.

. . . and even if she is Sarah Palin, Ms. Palin need say nothing.

The others who supported Hillary will say to Ms. Palin, "I supported Hillary Clinton; Hillary Clinto got my vote; and governor, you're no Hillary Clinton."

28. Feel The Love For Hillary, Disgruntled PUMAs!
Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 08:33 AM by VogonGlory
I hope that articles like this make unhappy Hillary Clinton supporters still upset about her loss to Barrack Obama in the primaries stop and reconsider any thoughts about voting for McCain and Palin. The boos for Hillary Clinton are not only directed at the Senator from New York, but also at the goals and aspirations of those of us who worked for Hillary Clinton in the primaries and voted for her.

Those "boos" are the "welcome wagon" former Hillary Clinton supporters can expect in the GOP.
