A little conspiracy theory here, but some friends and I were wondering if Sarah is being purposefully set up as the fall guy (or gal), just to allow McBush to replace her with someone a little less evangelical like Tom Ridge?

I don't put anything past Rove - who I figure still works out of the White House basement.

1. No Sinister Purpose or Agents

But yes, I think it's very possible that she is replaced.

2. IT would be devestating to his campaign.
Replacing Eagleton with Shriver destroyed McGovern.

It would end any chance McCain had of winning the election.

9. That's why she would withdraw --- still, it would call into question his judgement...
For making such an ill fated choice in the first place. This scenerio seems to be a win/win one for Dems. She stays or goes - it spins bad for the pukes.

3. Even if so, we have to make this about his piss-poor judgement
"At the very least, the process reflects Mr. McCain’s history of making fast, instinctive and sometimes risky decisions. "I make them as quickly as I can, quicker than the other fellow, if I can," Mr. McCain wrote, with his top adviser Mark Salter, in his 2002 book, "Worth the Fighting For." "Often my haste is a mistake, but I live with the consequences without complaint."

7. So why not just nominate Ridge in the first place?
What would the McCain campaign gain from deliberately making themselves look incompetent in this way? I don't get it
