C-Span Caller from Eagle River arkansas (former alaskan) says everything here.

All in one phone call. Next caller, same thing.
Bringing up babygate and troopergate and a new one: Sarah gave everyone a $1200 rebate for gas prices, that's why she's got an 80% approval rating.

Went right through the laundry list we've been discussing. Beautiful.

1. I think the secessionist connections are going to be most useful. Did they mention that?

3. Well she didn't actually "give" it to them did she?
I mean that's what they were entitled to under the profit sharing deal that they have, she was just in the right place at the right time. That is my understanding of how it works up there anyway.

7. The $1200 is in addition to the Permanent Fund dividend.
This is a one-time emergency relief check because our energy costs are so much higher than other places in the country. Some places out in the Bush are paying over $7.00 for a gallon of gas, and fuel oil, which they rely on, is astronomical.

11. Ah, thanks for the clarification
Did that come from the general fund or was it a "rebate" a la the federal stimulus or from another source?

14. It came from the oil profits.
Our state coffers are bulging.

5. I saw a local paper say the 80 percent rating was inflated
That it was more like 65 and falling. I can't remember which paper is was, though.

8. She has taken a hit since the Walt Monegan firing.
He was a long-time Anchorage cop, a popular chief of police and Public Safety commissioner. Many people here felt "she done him wrong," given the personal nature of her beef with Trooper Wooten.

9. Also, it's Alaska.
A very red, outlier type state. The things they like about her up there might not have so much appeal elsewhere.

12. There's no doubt about that.
My only fear is that Outsiders will be so enamored by her uniqueness as a rootin' tootin' Alaskan (call it the Northern Exposure effect) that they give her a pass. We're a bunch of weirdos and outcasts up here, so we tend to cut our politicians a lot of slack, as the recent indictments clearly demonstrate.

15. Well, it's nice to see so many pictures of Alaska.
It looks so beautiful up there, wow. So that's one benefit from the whole thing. Plus, you hardly ever get to hear the phrase "rootin' tootin'" any more!

6. Not quite accurate.
Sarah's approval rating has been in the 80s since she was inaugurated. The $1200 rebate just came within the last couple of months. It doesn't hurt, but it's not the cause.

10. Seems to me that the GOP must have a call bank set up just for CSPAN
as there always seems to be plenty of CSPAN callers on the Republican and Indep lines, and they all seem to parrot the same talking points. Of course, many of the Dem callers leave you saying to yourself "Huh?"
