GOP: Palin's teen daughter's pregnancy is a personal, not political, matter (lol)
Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 02:15 PM by LoZoccolo
ST. PAUL, Minn. – With news that presumptive Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin’s 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, GOP leaders and delegates rallied around her, saying it is a personal matter – not a political one.

Saul Anuzis, chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, said some people might be disappointed in the news but that “it’s a family issue.”

It looks like they have finally surrendered on whether or not something like this should be made political.

PS: I'm not laughing at Palin or her pregnant daughter, I wish her the best. I'm just saying to the Republicans, remember this next time you want to bring something like this up.

1. Then why are they using it to advance their anti-abortion agenda?
Sarah and Todd Palin issued a statement saying they are "proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby..."

The McCain aide insisted a key point to keep in mind is that Bristol decided to keep the baby, a decision "supported by her parents."

3. Will they support diversity? Photo and website of Bristol's boyfriend
This was posted earlier on DU. I have no idea if it is correct but someone else made a point that conservatives will rally around the pregnant teen's plight... but will they be so supportive when they realize that he is as stated "half black, half white"?

4. They exploited Palin's down syndrome baby as evidence of her
anti-abortion sainthood, and now this--these people are sickening.

8. Oho....
So it's a personal matter when it's one of their own, but a political matter when it's someone else (i.e., not conservative). The hypocrisy stinks worse than manure in springtime. I am snickering at their suddenly having to eat their words regarding choice, teenage motherhood and premarital sex. No matter how much of a stiff upper lip they're trying to keep, this has got to hurt big-time.

9. I am not at all familiar with the Christian faith, my question is: is it againt the faith and God's
word to be having sex before marriage? and when you are young?

If it is, then the Palin family is not Christian enough and/or close to God as much as they let us think?

In other words, are they HYPOCRITES?

So what I don't know is: is it ok (religiously) for a young Christian woman to fuck before marriage? I think Mormons say it is not ok.

And I can tell you it was hammered into us kids that it is definitely not okay to engage in premarital sex - even if you are an adult. You have to be married, and you can't use birth control other than the dubious "rhythm method". The iron-clad stance on premarital sex is largely the same in other Christian sects, though many are a bit more lenient regarding birth control. The Palin family is definitely hypocritical, which isn't surprising - the ones who trumpet their virtue the loudest tend to have the most to hide.

edited to fix typo

11. Perhaps her limelight loving mom should have thought about that.
Before telling the whole world? I feel so sorry for the child mother to be to have such an uncaring mother.

13. The daughter's life IS personal but not her mother's
By Palin accepting the invitation to run for VP, she knew she would be pulled into a media spotlight.

And HER actions as to how she handles her family (i.e., the smallest form of government) IS pertinent to my decision about whether she would make a responsible VP or not.

And at this point, I see sheer hypocrisy. Her parenting skills are lacking.

14. When your VP candidate is campaigning in part on her
superior executive management skills such as being a perfect Christian mother of 5, her FAILURES in that capacity are fair game.

They said in no uncertain terms that part of her vaunted executive experience was as a mother. Now it's coming back to bite them in the ass.
