72 Hours After the Pick and We Have FOUR Major Scandals
Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 02:51 PM by IWantAnyDem
#1 - Abuse of power. She used her power as mayor to fire a police chief without cause because he supported her opponent, then the librarian because she wouldn't censor books. She went on to abuse her power by firing a guy who wouldn't fire her ex-brother-in-law and fired a long time aide due to the fact that her husband didn't like him dating the soon to be ex-wife of his friend.

#2 - She supported the bridge to nowhere before she was against it.

#3 - She chaired the corrupt and under indictment, Ted Stevens, 527 organization. This alone could put her Alaska approival ratings in the tank because Stevens is despised on the level of Frank Murkowski.

#4 - She was a member of a political party before becoming mayor and still has ties to that political party that has as a stated goal the secession of Alaska from the Union. This is radical on a level not seen on the national level of politics since reconstruction.

1. OHh.. and as a footnote, her 17 year old kid is knocked up... and un-married.
:) But, I agree.. that's not even a big deal in comparisson.. it just ads to the pile.

acting like sex never happens and is taboo.. don't talk about it.. don't teach it.. etc, = pregnancy.

49. Oh that's a major point - very very very major point
This gal wants to claim 'I'm good enough to finish what Hillary has done' and lure our voters over to her because she has ovaries

She wants to tell me what I can do with my body and how I educate our children when it comes to sex and I can't be critical because clearly her daughter is having pre-marital sex and the girl isn't even 18 yet.

Fair game my friend fair game.

8. The Alaskan Independence Party.
Stated Goals:

The Alaskan Independence Party's goal is the vote we were entitled to in 1958, one choice from among the following four alternatives:
1) Remain a Territory.
2) Become a separate and Independent Nation.
3) Accept Commonwealth status.
4) Become a State.
The call for this vote is in furtherance of the dream of the Alaskan Independence Party's founding father, Joe Vogler, which was for Alaskans to achieve independence under a minimal government, fully responsive to the people, promoting a peaceful and lawful means of resolving differences.

Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 07:08 PM by DeschutesRiver
I mean, we now have a candidate for VP of the USA who joined a group that openly advocates having their state leave the USA.

Why on earth even as a republican (which I am not) would anyone want that person in charge (potentially) running our country? She DOESN'T WANT TO BE A PART OF THE COUNTRY....oh yeah, unless she is VP of it.

This is beyond a nightmare. No, not even I thought republicans were that scary - or at least not in that way. Sure they do things at odd with our best interests as a nation; but I presumed that at minimum, they still wanted us to BE a nation.

And I have news for the ding-a-ling - she doesn't want to be a part of my nation? Then I don't want her running the nation she doesn't want to be a part of - for gosh sake, she spoke to the group just this year! Bugger off, Sarah, go run your own country - you joined a group intending to make one, so see if they will elect you for office.

55. TPM has a great round up of the scandals so far
* The news that Palin once backed the Bridge to Nowhere went national.

* It emerged that Palin has links to the bizarro Alaska Independence Party, which harbors the goal of seceding from the union that McCain and Palin seek to lead.

* The news broke that as governor, Palin relied on an earmark system she now opposes. Taken along with the Bridge to Nowhere stuff, this threatens to undercut her reformist image, something that was key to her selection as McCain's Veep candidate.

* The news broke that Palin's 17-year-old daughter became pregnant out of wedlock at a time when the conservative base had finally started rallying behind McCain's candidacy.

-----

* It came out that Republican lawyers are up in Alaska vetting Palin -- now, more than 72 hours after it was announced that she'd been picked.

* Palin lawyered up in relation to the trooper-gate probe in Alaska -- a move that ensures far more serious attention to the story from the major news orgs.

She is a creationist, has one of worst environmental records I have seen even on a Repuke (she wanted to sue the Bush administration over protecting Polar bears fer Christ's sake), she doesn't believe in abortions even in the case of rape or incest...
She is blatantly far-right and she isn't going to appeal to those independants that McLoonypants thinks he has some sort of cred with..

This person is a nightmare-I would be seriously scared right now if I thought the GOP could pull this off.
