As most progressives understand only to well, attacking someone makes their own rally around. Obama's reaction (or non-reaction) is extremely smart.

The more we go quiet on this the more time in the quiet of their own mind will the far right have time to peacefully question themselves and their own values. Without attacks some right wingers who actually are not hypocrites (my aunt is one) will quietly admit to themselves that this is a poor choice from the perspective of THEIR values. If we talk, analyze, blog, and attack these people will instead rally around.

1. The American people, by and large, are NOT tuned in to the battle
of the internet blogs on the right and left. I don't think us talking or NOT talking matters in the least. What Obama says is what matters, and he is pure class. I'm not, however. ;-)

2. Excellent post!
Embrace it. Rejoice in the fact that this girl isn't a stiff, frigid robot. Sexuality is a good thing, so good for her. Clearly birth control is not on the Palin family radar screen ... but whatever. She and her young boyfriend are getting married and keeping the baby. Good for them.

5. I'd probably have an easier time embracing it..
if Ms. Palin was for letting me and my daughter decide whether we were going to carry our babies to term or not.

9. At the moment, your daughter still has that right. Make sure your vote counts.
Get others out there to vote, too.

We should be making the repukes PAY for their mistakes, like the repukes make the Dems pay for theirs.

17. I'm for attack too, but not when there is a 17 yr. old girl involved.
It is not smart, it will only engender sympathy. It is the kind of attack that at best is ineffective and at worst backfires.

Now as far as troopergate? ATTACK over and over. Anything else we can dig up is fair game. But with this one we must be very careful and Obama showed great wisdom with his response. If you have ever read any of my posts you know I am the last who is candy-ass.

7. Incorrect...as we have seen time and time again
it comes down to defining the candidate before the candidate defines themselves.

10. Some people never learn
by leaving this and tons of other emotional issues alone it allows the far right to frame the narrative.

Which they will do- just as they have in the past.

Brilliant "strategy."

15. I agree with you
The other part of this is it's Palin's daughter not Palin that is the center of attention here. Revelations and attacks on candidates' daughters and sons have never been effective (or am I forgetting something?). Continual discussion of Palin's daughters' situation will anger people who see it as an invasion of privacy. Some things are valid targets; this one is not in the minds of most voters. Anyone thinking this is a useful line of attack is misguided.
