Here's what Obama thinks of "Babygate"
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/09/obama-to-media.html

At a brief press availability in Monroe, Mich., ABC News asked Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., if he had any response to Gov. Sarah Palin's statement that her unmarried 17-year-old daughter Bristol is pregnant.

"Let me be a clear as possible: I have said before and I will repeat again, I think people's families are off limits," Obama said, "and people's children are especially off limits.

"This shouldn't be part of our politics," he continued, "It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as governor, or her potential performance as a vice president.

"And so I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories," he said. "You know my mother had me when she was 18, and how a family deals with issues and, you know, teenage children, that shouldn't be the topic of our politics and I hope that anybody who is supporting me understands that's off limits."

Asked about the insinuation from the McCain campaign that the liberal bloggers trafficking in rumors about Palin write for websites that mention Obama, the senator said, "I'm offended by that."

The Democratic presidential nominee said, "There is no evidence at all that any of this involved us. I hope I am as clear as can be - so in case I'm not, let me repeat: We don't go after people's families, we don't get them involved in the politics. It's not appropriate and it's not relevant."

Concluded Obama before getting on his campaign bus headed to Milwaukee, Wisc., "Our people were not involved in any way in this and they will not be. And if I ever thought that it was somebody in my campaign that was involved in something like that, they'd be fired."

This is the "Change" we've been waiting for!

30. New posters? Moochy, I have been here a long time.
And I have to tell you, I don't think it does Obama any good to be associated with this slime. To win this election, we have to show that this is NOT politics as usual. The slamming of a 17-year old IS politics as usual. It's Rovian.

Obama is better than that, and so are we.

44. Thanks, Moochy. :)
There are lots of newbies. Part of me :tinfoilhat: thinks the stories about Palin's 5th kid and her daughter being his mother were concocted by the RW to make us look stupid and heartless. The real story was just a teenage girl getting pregnant and now we have mud on our faces. Instead of Palin coming out and saying her daughter was pregnant (which would have put the focus on her) the internets were full of smears all weekend that made us (and Barack) look bad. I worry that we were set up.

There have been WAY too many trolls, Moochy, and I guess it makes me paranoid, too, but in a different way.

And if she's 5 months pregnant now, there's no way, no how that she's the mother of the baby born in April, so give it a damn rest already!

Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 05:09 PM by w4rma
Especially in relation to how abstinence-only education fails to reduce it. In fact, abstinence-only education increases the likelihood of teenage pregnancy. We have a very famous example example of this in the spotlight, right now.

Those smears just make us and Barack look bad.

Maybe Palin's daughter's pregnancy can start a really honest talk about teenage pregnancy, but it won't happen because posters here smeared her before we knew anything.

59. Look, Nikki. I have said over and over that it is a fair subject to discuss because it reflects
badly on McCain, his judgment, his machine, etc.

He should not be trusted to run the government if he cannot make a more wise (or at least not insane) VP selection.
If this brings up Palin's dirty laundry, it is unfortunate, but I will not lose sleep because 4,200 or so dead soldiers, 30,000 or so wounded and hundreds of thousands dead Iraqis and the lives of my children are on the line.

It is a no-brainer. I am ready for tar and pitchforks, so a little mud-slinging is not an issue for me.

Maybe you aren't properly evaluating the above.

79. He's a prince.
I love him. And of course his campaign can have nothing to do with the personal life.

But I think we, as spectators to this whole thing, are free to talk about whatever we want. Just not in Obama's name.

85. If your his supporter
and you're running your mouth on a known Democratic forum dedicated to his election, you are his representative. Stop being disingenuous.
