Straw, camel's back. that is all.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the GOP vice presidential candidate, has hired a private practice attorney to defend her in the investigation into the firing of her public safety commissioner.

The Legislature is investigating whether Palin fired public safety commissioner Walt Monegan after he refused to fire a state trooper who had divorced Palin's sister.

Anchorage attorney Thomas V. Van Flein has requested a copy of all witness statements and documentary evidence from the Legislature's investigator, Stephen Branchflower. Sen. Hollis French, an Anchorage Democrat, says he instructed Branchflower not to comply with the request.

In July, a legislative oversight committee approved $100,000 to investigate whether Palin abused her power in firing Monegan.

She's probably booking the flight back home as we speak. Buh-bye, Sarah.

3. I'd say McSame is done too (more than he already is) if he has to change
nominees mid-race. That would be a disaster for him.

4. This is what will bring her down
I'm thinking the whole Babygate scandal was set up as a smokescreen so that when she exits the GOP can blame it on "liberal bloggers".

5. I would not be so quick to draw this conclusion. The BIG HITTERS
are sticking with her so far.

May I say Obama made me proud this afternoon with his statement.

6. Oh I doubt it.
The rethug tentacles reach deep into Alaska...expect a lot of evidence to disappear.

10. You might be right about that.
But this development by itself is a sea change. Last week, she was saying she wasn't worried about the whole thing because she 'did nothing wrong.'

Today, she cuts a check for the lawyer.

Now, granted - she may go back to Alaska and end up dodging the bullet. But how is the meme of 'the scandal-plagued Republican VP candidate' going to play with voters here in the Lower 48?

I think she's done as McCain's VP. What they do with her once they get her ass back to Alaska isn't really my concern.

7. Andrea Mitchell tried to spin that in her favor.
:eyes:

Like it was her political opponents that forced her into this decision. The MSM is handling her with kid gloves.

9. Nope. You don't lawyer up if your stepping down. She would have used her daughter as a way to exit

12. If McCalin has to scramble for a new VP pick, he is done. Finished. He either
fights it out with her as VP, or he goes down in flames. Sweet.
