ABC Evening News (Brian Ross) exposing partying by corporate lobbyists on GOP delegation
Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 06:00 PM by themartyred

seriously, they talk about donating, I'm sure they gave a token 10,000 to the fund or something, but how much did that shockingly bright gold dress cost?
LOL

And I have searched throughout their website to find the link I believe - here ya go!
http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/Conventions/story?id=5699123&page=1

"We will be contacting corporations and others to ask them to be respectful of events in the gulf," McCain campaign manager Rick Davis said Sunday afternoon.

Yet, last night lobbyists for the National Rifle Association, Lockheed Martin and the American Trucking Association put on a raucus six-hour party at a downtown bar featuring music by the band "Hookers and Blow." There was no evidence of any actual prostitutes or cocaine.

HOOKERS AND BLOW!!! BWA-HAHAHAHA!

6. This is MUCH bigger news than people are apparently seeing because
their WHOLE plan was to suspend the campaign JUST for politics and you saw that reaction of the Republican party member saying he wasn't talking to Ross because they KNOW damn well ALLLLL the partying and raucous activities were going to go AS PLANNED and it's BULLSHIT that they were scaling back anything for real, except the windbag GOP speakers - these reports today by ABC NEWS shocked me at how fair they were to the facts! Good job ABC. Normally wouldn't watch their news, but that was on from a show I watched earlier.

11. Somebody downthread said they did a similar report on the Dem parties
So, in a rational world, they'd have to do the R's too. Amazing that they actually did!

In a rational world, the R's would have been watching the news and been aware this could happen. They either didn't notice, or thought they'd get special treatment. Either way, fantastic!

4. that report makes me sick to my stomach - here's what i remember of it
its reports like those that make me sick

i can't remember the specifics, but i believe it was something like this

"a pig roast sponsored by big oil" (camera shows lots of drunk white guys in a ridiculously fancy outdoor wedding style event

"a downtown nightclub was rented out by lockheed martin and (somebody else) while the band "Hookers and Blow" played on stage" (camera shows a congressman with a table full of lobbyists - all fat white guys - holding court and yucking it up)

MAKES ME FUCKING SICK TO MY STOMACH

5. I saw that!

They mentioned that they also did a story on lobbyists at the Dem convention last week, but I didn't see it. But this really looked bad in light of the hurricane. And the reporter was asking everyone "Do you think it is appropriate to be having a party whena a hurricane is coming?" And one person at the party hid her face with a boa!

They also did a story on the Palin daughter, and at the end, they mentioned troopergate and Charles Gibson actually sounded testy and said "It would seem, George. That they didn't do. the vetting." And George said that there are reports of Republicans being sent to Alaska now to do more vetting and said...."So now...the question is...what ELSE don't we know about Sarah Palin yet" (!), or something to that effect.

10. right on ErinBerin
I loved the back and forth between Gibson and Snuffalufagus - it was very direct and accusatory about what else is out there since we're hearing new things hourly, from the drunken driving arrest of Todd, to her daughter supposedly being 5 months pregnant as Todd and Sarah say (but at this point, we can't trust a thing they say, it could be to cover up the Downs baby story, who know!?)

also from the link I posted -

"Many delegates at a party Saturday night for GOP convention CEO Maria Cino said they saw no reason to stop the good time because of events in New Orleans.

"Everyone goes through hard times," said Wisconsin delegate Jeff Larson.
Five pink spotlights were set up outside of the invitation-only party. ABC News reporters were told they could not enter.

Asked about the appropriateness of the gathering, Republican National Committeeman Tony Parker walked away from ABC News cameras, saying, "I don't want to talk with you."
Another Republican guest hid his face from cameras, wrapping a pink boa around his eyes and nose.
The executive director of the National Association of Manufacturers, Jay Timmons, a prominent Washington lobbyist, said, "I don't think it's a legitimate question," when asked if he felt funny attending the gala at a time of crisis in New Orleans. "

20. Ummm....?? Democrats made no ostentatious & PHONY pledge to SUSPEND "non-essential" activities.
So your point is not a particularly sound one.

25. Well, yah, that's the amazing part
One would expect that they'd let the R's off the hook. One would expect that the R's would be smart enough to make appropriate plans in case they didn't. Oh, wait....

16. "So, how'd you pick the name 'Hookers & Blow' anyway?"
BEFORE TREATMENT IN GOP SPIN MACHINE: "Duh."

AFTER TREATMENT IN GOP SPIN MACHINE: "Well, we're all part-time fishermen and snow-removal experts from Alaska and we wanted a name that reflected our working-class roots."

27. blow=double meaning: cocaine or blow job. Now what was it I heard
about all of the prostitutes going to the RNC? Considering the very large number of Repukes who have been charged with sex crimes I wonder how many are partaking of such services. Don't forget the male prostitute Jeff Gannon/Guckert who ran a slut wring out of the DC area. He was nailed for planting questions at WHouse Press conferences. I wonder if the REpukies are getting their jollies from these kinds of services in ST. Paul.

Please pass this on to people in ST. Paul who may want to look into it.
