The misleading "Kerry Daughters Booed at VMA's" is BS
This is one of those annoying things that is not a big deal, but the press will make it such. As supporters what are we to do? Complain or just let it side? Its annoying but its embarrassing and MORE IMPORTANTLY MISLEADING!

First and foremost both the KERRY & BUSH DAUGHTERS were boo'ed. However the press, most likely following Drudge's lead, is just reporting the Kerry kids were boo'ed.

For those of you who did not see it, Carson Daley introduced the Bush twins (who appeared via satellite or tape) first and the boos started immediately, however it appeared they were just booing the Kerry girls as they walked out. Also after the Kerry girls got settled the boo's were matched with cheers (so at worst there was a mixture of boos and cheers), when the Bush kids finally appeared you heard no boos BECAUSE MTV went directly to the tape or audio feed which blocked out ANY audience noice (boos or cheers).

This is a minor event, yet the press (NBC5 in Chicago ran with a Kerry's got boo'ed line) is going to make it out to be a major embarrassment for only the Kerry's, which just smacks of bias.

Is this a minor or a major? I think its a minor, but the spirit of media bias is just so offensive it could be a major.

3. nope, i liked it that she did that
it showed she didn't care about popularity but cared more about getting the important message about young people and voting out.

5. That is some good Monday morning quarterbacking. . .
. . .they are trying to speak and noise is being made I think its a natural reaction. The biggest mistake, on the part of both campaigns, was to do the show at all.

2. it might be a good thing that some think the Kerry girls were booed by MTV
crowd.

it might help us with the anti hollywood crowd from the "heartland" who are having economic troubles but don't like kerry for cultural reasons.

4. OMG...
The MTV Video Music Awards has got to be the lamest display of mindless Americanism on TV. Really, if the shallow, brain dead, coked-up people in the audience booed anyone, should we really care? Dear god, kill me now.

6. So, in reality, they were booing the Bush twins
and were still booing when the Kerry girls walked on stage. At least that's how I'm reading it with the explanations of the event.

7. I would not necessarily give the Kerry girls a pass, at worst. . .
. . .both sets of girls got boo'ed at best the Kerry booing was a result of the Bush booing. Hey unlinke the press I am just trying to be objective.

10. and the Kerry daughter was shushing them from booing the Bush twins?
That is what it sounds like to me. Looks that way on tape too.

Graciously shushing not for themselves but for the booing against the Bushes.

Nice !!!

8. From the Miami Herald
-snip-
But the audience wasn't especially receptive when Vanessa and Alexandra Kerry took the stage at the AmericanAirlines Arena earlier in the evening to stump for their dad, Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry.

''My sister and I are thrilled to be here and to get this chance to suggest that you get involved in this election and vote -- and hopefully you vote for our father,'' Vanessa Kerry said.

Scattered boos.

Alexandra Kerry pressed on: ``People are free to feel differently about who to vote for.''

BUSH TWINS

Two who did, Barbara and Jenna Bush, the president's daughters, appeared on camera from New York, site of the Republican convention.

''Voting is the most American thing any of us can do. If you are old enough, educate yourself and vote,'' Jenna Bush said.

Amy Lee of Evanescence said she thought the focus on the upcoming election was great, but that the audience showed poor taste during the appearance of the candidates' daughters. ``I thought it was really tacky to boo anyone you don't support. That sucks.''

9. And more from the Herald
-snip-
But you could call this the less-than-electric election-year VMAs. But for a few boos aimed at the daughters of Sen. John Kerry (who took the stage early to urge folks into voting) and the daughters of President George W. Bush (who did the same from New York and got the same response), the show was, sadly, perfectly polite.

11. MSNBC just did a report saying the crowd showed who they were for
by booing the Kerry sisters and cheering the Bush twins.

This report was said (perhaps not written, I don't know) by Randy Meyers, the anchor in the morning who IMO tilts more to the right than the other anchors they have during the day.

13. There was no audio of the crowd during the Bush girls . . .
. . .so unless they were there how does MSNBC know they were cheered?

I've heard the tape, and you can't hear any "boos." People just hear what they want to hear.

. . .I just hate that it is being portrayed as if the Kerry girls were the only ones who received them.

17. It looked to me like the Kerry's got the brunt of it...
Because they were there and were reacting to the crowd, the Bush twins could'nt hear the crowd and just went through their plug...the shushing was tacky and made the Kerry girls look like school marms...I don't think this was the event to do GOTV work...and the crowd seemed to show that. IMO

19. I was watching last night
And I expected the Kerry daughters to get a better reception than they did.

Although the crowd was probably booing about the evening being made into a political event, it did appear that the Kerry daughters got the brunt of the boos. Cheers did indeed outweigh boos when the Bush daughters were on, but then MTV cut the ambient audio of the venue. I would imagine that both the Kerrys and the Bushes were booed, but the editing made it seem like it was just the Kerrys.

My b/f isn't as passionate about politics as I am, and he's starting to tire of the constant bickering on the news about swift boat vets, et al. I use him as my barometer of what average folks are thinking about the election. His take was that no one wanted to be reminded of the election, and the boos from the crowd were indicative of that -- not just aimed at the Kerrys or the Bushes.

It reminded me that no matter how wound up I get or how passionate other DUers are about the election, the majority of people just want it to be over. Although *'s policies impact everyone, some people just don't want to be bothered with thinking -- it's a very sad situation.
