BARF ALERT: McCain is going to position the GOP as the "party of peace" tonight!
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 07:38 PM by ClarkUSA
George Orwell would be proud.

The signs have been distributed all across the convention floor: "Peace" they say, hundreds of them, as if this was still 1968 and Eugene McCarthy still had a chance. And upstairs, in the convention kitsch shop, they are selling tie-dye "John McCain 2008" buttons. A little bit of conservative irony, and a whole lot of tactical messaging. Republicans are about to announce to the nation that they are the party of peace. The betting money is that McCain will not go so far tonight as to endorse Dennis Kucinich's plan to christen a new "Department of Peace."

UPDATE: "John is a leader committed to peace," Mel Martinez just said from the podium. It's a theme.

34. Agreed. We also have that anti gay marriage prop that has GOT to go down
Lots of out-of-state money propping that up. Most Californians either support gay marriage or don't care. Two friends of mine want to get married, but they are afraid their status will be invalidated if that proposition goes through.

36. That's a classic Rovian red herring used every election year to turn out the GOP base.
There's similar social wedge stuff in every state this year. It won't work as well this year as in 2004, though;
too many people are sick of living in BushCo economic times. I know in California the foreclosure rates in SoCal
and elsewhere are frightening.

31. Hello, Mr. Orwell? You may now roll over in your grave...
The transition to Big Brother is now complete. Up is down. Black is white. A failed, destructive war is good because we surged to success. The fundamentals of the economy are strong. The pro-life position irregardless of circumstance is the mainstream view. Drilling for oil will solve our fuel problems. Protestors that block traffic are terrorists. We use enhanced interrogation on dangerous terrorists in order to prevent violence and to preserve human rights. God hates muslims. Health care for all only encourages people to get sick. Elections are not about issues. Weapons of mass destruction existed were the reason for war before they weren't, and then it is our President's accomplishment that those weapons do not exist. Invading sovereign countries is evil.

WAR IS PEACE

35. The only "peace" the Repukes offer is the peace of the grave.
And they'll grant it to all of us when Grampy kicks off. Then Caribou Barbie and her Dominionist scum troop will then set off WWIII (a/k/a WWLast) so their imaginary Jeebus will come back and rapture them off wherever morans like think they're gonna be raptured off to.
