MCCain/Palin are trying to pander to parents of children with Autism and Asperger's
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 09:46 PM by myrna minx
:puke: Do we really believe that McCain/Palin will care for the epidemic of Autism and Asperger's or will Obama/Biden will actually hunt down the cause? :puke:

22. I have the greatest kid in the world. Disabled is a state of mind.
We are used to him, he is so well integrated into our large family that no one sees him as not "normal" he's just Lawrence. He is very well loved. The tough road is long past, we remain ever vigilant.

and do so succesfully in the face of never ending cuts to programs! We love ALL our kids, I learned long ago that all of us are born with some sort of disability, some are just more apparent.

12. This mom of a kid with autism isn't fooled.
Palin can claim that we'll have a "friend" in the White House, but she's better look for the ENEMIES of kids with special needs in her own damn party.

The Republicans tried to gut IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Act) when John Boehner headed the Education and the Workforce Committee.

The Republicans have cut Medicaid and Medicare funding.

The Republicans have cut funding for programs that help people with disabilities live and work in the community.

And Bush signed the Combating Autism Act and then didn't put a SINGLE STINKING CENT in his budget to fund it.

19. Thanks for starting this thread.
I've been doing political advocacy for autism causes since my daughter was diagnosed more than 14 years ago. The last 8 have been extremely disheartening. Compassionate conservatism is the ultimate hypocrisy.

Palin made my efforts and the efforts of all of those parents of kids with special needs who came before me a cruel political JOKE. Without the efforts of those community organizers children like her own without rich parents would be forced to rot in an institution.

21. Palin obviously uses special needs children as props, therefore her "understanding" rings hollow.
I just found these panderings grossly disgusting, because I know how hard it has been for parents/caregivers to get those in power to take Autism, Asperger's or even diabetes seriously. to you, because I can only imagine how difficult it is.

23. Palin is clueless and heartless.
My daughter is a great kid and is lucky because we were able to afford the very best early intervention services for her. A group of us parents worked to get programming available to ALL kids with autism with a combination of federal and state funds. Since Bush took office the funding is drying up. The wait list for services is growing.

I am SO ANGRY. I hate these hypocrites with an intensity that is unhealthy.

33. One of the first things Palin did
As governor of Alaska was to slash funding for special needs children by over 60%.

And she expects that parents will overlook that?

Not bloody likely.

And these people's records concerning care for autistics is legendary.

As in TERRIBLE. I attend meetings with other parents who know autistic families in the States.

And without exception, they say it's a MAJOR BATTLE to get ANY recognition, let alone funding for autistics.

God, I hate these people.

Congressman Boehner's office pretty much told me that parents of kids with disabilities should shut up and be grateful for the crumbs they throw us.

Today's Republican party has NO problem with survival of the fittest (and richest). They thump their bibles but apparently never read them.

I have 2 friends in their 30's and 40's who have just come to understand their bi-polar disorder (they were recently diagnosed, finally!!!) , so I'm so happy that you have come to understand early, what is going on, to spare your child the nightmare of the un-diagnosed miserable life. You have a long road ahead, but you and your child at least know you have each other, which makes all the difference.

If republicans say it out loud, and loudly, OR TYPE IT LOUDLY, it must be true. :sarcasm: Look at the rapturous, orgasmic, unchecked afterglow from Palin's speech. She is all things to all people, if I'm to believe Wolf Blitzer et. al. You are apparently suffering from being in reality, which the republican party and the media do not inhabit.

They have expanded the definition and that accounts for any apparent increase.

But of course the Republicans will continue to cut whatever funding exists for any and all social services. Whatever McCain said was just pandering for votes. He didn't really mean and if he is elected we are all on our own.
