We're living in some strange altered world tonight. On Faux, they're
panning the speech. CNN (Anderson Cooper) is talking about how McCain hit all the notes and spoke about policy in depth more than Obama, while a former Bush speech writer (Gerson) on MSNBC was saying that there was nothing but the boilerplate Repuke talking points, with nothing about policy.

MCNBC is just creaming themselves over the whole thing. On CNN, Toobin just said it was the worst speech he'd heard in years, and suddenly Anderson Cooper changed his tune.

What the hell is going on?

shifting to something along the lines of "well, he got through it."

8. MSM is paranoid over being "liberally biased"
But the conservatives are, somehow, being HONEST! Which is either part of a diabolical Rovian plot, or bitterness that the speech slammed them all.

At any rate, the rest of the MSM won't have to continue sucking up to McCain if Fox doesn't.

13. Okay, now they're saying, on MSNBC, that this was only a "base"
convention, and there was no appeal to moderates and independents.

Talking about the green screen.

On CNN, Wolf is still raving about the balloons. Wolf really likes the balloons.

17. Well, I'd say what you witnessed was a crappy speech ...
... with varying reactions based on McCain campaign pressure on the media and each pundit's backbone. Matthews is a total coward, so he was praising the speech; Fox is getting no pressure, so they could be honest (or maybe they want Palin on top of the ticket); Toobin's generally honest, and Anderson Cooper's a Ken doll with no substance.

18. Not just a crappy speach
The Repugs can mock the Dem Convention stage setup in CO but the shit they did was amaturish at best. As the saying goes "Put up or shut up"! They made so much noise over the Dem presentation that they forgot to manage their own backyard.

And one other thing I am a Project Manager and if I know that my candidate has been chosen 3 months prior to the Dems, I would have been finding the best stage professionals in the US to fix my shit up? They did absolutely nothing.

WTF was with the Green screen and then the Blue Screen?

The message that all of their speakers gave were negative and provided no solutions.

I am betting this goes down as the worst Republican Convention in history! One can only hope!

... they didn't have the money. You know Bush had bigger blowouts in both his conventions, and they've been all about stage management.

> WTF was with the Green screen and then the Blue Screen?

That kills me. I'm trying to find photos of the speech to demonstrate, but it wasn't a green "screen" or a blue "screen." It looks like they were displaying huge photo images up on the big HD screen, except they hadn't testing what it would all look like in action.

The green screen was McCain standing in from of a huge-arse house with a beautiful green lawn, except it was blown-up so big, and the television cameras blurred the grass enough, that it looked like he was standing in front of a green screen. Ditto for the blue, except I believe it was a photo of the sky/clouds. (see your previous comment re: paying for professionals to get it done right.)

Yep, more of the same attack they've been doing for months, to little effect. Really mind-boggling. And I think McCain's speech debacle will significantly restrict the post-RNC bounce for McSame.

> One can only hope.

I'm keeping that hope alive.

edit: p.s. Sweet irony #2... I just caught a clip of Palin's speech from Weds night were she derides Obama's "greek columns" etc. Have to wonder if second-guessing their choices, now.

28. Screenshot from pulled-back view
(Have to wonder about yet another blunder. Sure the theme of night 3 was "Prosperity", but with so many people falling just a little short of that elusive goal... and maybe even not having a place to live... did it make a lot of sense to put John "7 houses" McCain in front of a beautiful mansion?)

20. It's getting weirder. Now, on Larry King, we have Evan Byah, being
his usual Golden Retriever self, Mayor Gavin Newsome trying to appear like he's always been out there stumping for Obama (I've never seen him) and, of all people, Terry McAuliffe, going on and on and on. Terry was the only one of the three who actually was negative about the speech. Called it disjointed and more of the same stuff. No details, etc. Bayh thought it was a good speech and Newsom...well, whatever he said left no impression.
