First off, my best friend has went to Iraq twice. We all had a picnic and slapped him on the back. We didn't quit our jobs for 6 days just to say good bye.

Second, if you have only 61 days to campaign is it wise to be gone for the first 10% of that in this crucial "frame the debate" period of time?

Third, if it is country first why is she now putting family first.

And if there's such a conflict between family and the job, doesn't that undercut the "I can do it all" attitude?

Nah....

She isn't going back to Alaska just to see her son off, that's a bullshit ruse. She's got some big problems to tend to.

She looked worried tonight in my opinion.

Can't say that I blame them. When the public becomes aware that she's nothing more than gloss, the love affair will have started to dwindle.

6. It's like being hired for the most important job of your life but taking a week vacation after
1 hour (i.e. her speech)on the job.

5. she's going to be exposed sooner or later.
she can't go to alaska, give interviews with allies, and expect to be taken seriously. The women of the Democratic power structure need to destroy this woman once and for all. Hillary, Boxer, I don't care.

8. John McCain: POW... Sarah Palin: MIA.
The best way for the Obama campaign to handle it is to begin every day of the campaign by saying, "Well, I see Sarah Palin remains MIA. Here's how we are going to fix things..."

12. "if it is country first why is she now putting family first. " WELL PUT! I will...
...be stealing that line. Yes, I think there's something bad dragging her back up there. The whole thing speaks again to the lack of preparation and planning. Ladies and gentlemen, I call it the 'Incredible disappearing running mate trick'...let's see what sort of reaction she has when the media are camped on her front lawn.

14. Is there any other case of this when a candidate is named and then MIA for 2 wks
her 45 minute speech nonwithstanding?

I just can't imagine any other instance quite like this. Just bizarre.

21. Clearly not in the dog house, the theme today is that she is the energy
and excitement of the Republican ticket. This may also be strategic - she clearly needs intensive tutoring. How long ago was the idiotic "what does a VP do?" from a woman with a minor in political science. The cover of spending time before her son departs to Iraq emphasizes her motherhood and her son going to Iraq - nationally. It might be more can be gained than the maybe 14 rallies she could do - at less risk. (Also, I think her son is not going to Iraq, but to train to go to Iraq.)

learn what she needs to know before the media has a chance to question her. They don't want her to make a mistake.

27. That is it, of course, and reasonable, but ...
They HAVE to start to school her up on the basics, but it won't do much good, but IF they EVER let her open to any kind of unscripted inteviews by anyone other than Faux, it not have anything to do with "the issues," foreign policy or whatever.

This lady has a never ending string of tabloid nonsense that the media IS going to grill her on first.

Again, one of the reasons this is such a horribly self defeating pick.

The clock is no ticking FAST, F A S T.

And, the longer they delay her having open access to the media the longer it is going to take for the blood in the water for all her personal baggage to get played out - leaving them to do their disingenious deal of blaming the media for it. The BLAME lies at the foot of McCain for picking the train wreck, and the extreme fundies and Rush for propogating her.

Guess we'll have to wait and see where she turns up - Alaska, Michigan, or some place else.

Where do you get your info she will be gone the first 6 days (which today is the first day of that)?

I only WISH she would be gone that long. We don't need her here (WI)!

28. "Is it wise to be gone the first 10%"? FOR PALIN - YES.
She has no clue what she's doing.. so the opportunity for GAFFE is HUGE right now. Just look at what we've been able to scrape off of YouTube in the past week. "I'm not even sure what a VP Does.. hehehehe". :eyes:.

In a NORMAL election - this would be disastorous.. but in THIS campaign, it's pretty brilliant. It will piss off the media, but the McCain camp already thinks that they are against Palin anyway. Conversely - the Republican base is already in love with her.. they could care less if she takes a 2 week vacation to Aruba. She's pro-life dude! That's all that matters!! WHOO HOO.. she's pro-life. At this point, she could probably murder someone, and as long as no one had video of it, the Fundies would still vote for her.

So the only group that this really affects is the Independants who are making up their minds. In that case you have to balance the liklihood of a GAFFE vs. the liklihood that some Indie's are going to be pissed because she's out of the spotlight for the next 6 days. They're taking a guess that as long as she's around in October up to the election - all is well. They're probably right. Idiots.
