Woodward's New Book Proves Obama Was Right About The Surge!
Once again Obama is proven to be correct. The surge was not the main reason the level of violence dropped. This needs to be pointed out again and again.

"The Bush administration has conducted an extensive spying operation on Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, his staff and others in the Iraqi government, according to a new book by Washington Post associate editor Bob Woodward.

"We know everything he says," according to one of multiple sources Woodward cites about the practice in "The War Within: A Secret White House History, 2006-2008," scheduled for release Monday.

The book also says that the U.S. troop "surge" of 2007, in which President Bush sent nearly 30,000 additional U.S. combat forces and support troops to Iraq, was not the primary factor behind the steep drop in violence there during the past 16 months.

Rather, Woodward reports, "groundbreaking" new covert techniques enabled U.S. military and intelligence officials to locate, target and kill insurgent leaders and key individuals in extremist groups such as al-Qaeda in Iraq.” Cont…

10. It is the 4th
book in the series. Each one was authored to advance a specific agenda. The first was little more than cheerleading; the second was favorable on Bush, but contained some information that showed some of the fracturing within the administrtion; the third exposed the administration, including Bush, as fools; this one should be similar to the last one.

4. And I hope Woodward doesn't cave in to pressure to tone down
his remarks like he seems to have done on past book tours.

9. Agreed. I didn't watch Obama on O'Reilly yesterday,
but it would have been great if he had this info before he did the show as BO was trying to get Obama to APOLOGIZE for being "wrong" about the surge.

when they will surely ask him about the surge on MTP this Sunday.

17. Last I heard the republicans are still pouting about having to answer questions
I'm going to be writing to media outlets telling them they should stop covering McCain campaign events until Palin answers questions about her misleading/false statements about her record.

5. Yeah I have some firsthand experience with this as a buddy of mine works in civil affairs...
The first time he goes over there I ask him what the strategy is and he has NO answer.

The second he goes over there, I ask him what the strategy is and he has a detailed set of answers on how to address the issues over there and they sent him to counter insurgency school prior to going.

I think the improvements have more to do with technique as opposed to overall troop levels.

The other thing is that none of the change would have come about if WE all as a national hadn't screamed that people like Rumsfeld had to go.

Honestly I think the credit goes to the soldiers as well as those that told Bush and his band of idiots that things needed to change.

6. I've also been reading that there is big trouble brewing in the Anbar Province.
More info below:

The Iraqi government is taking over responsibility for the local militias that helped break the back of the country's Sunni insurgency. But these fighters -- known as "Awakening Councils" and "Sons of Iraq" -- are largely hostile to the Shi'ite-dominated administration in Baghdad. So what happens next? No one is really quite sure.

Over the past eighteen months, U.S. forces in Iraq have put on the payroll more than 100,000 militiamen -- many of whom are former insurgents themselves. That's the main reason why American troops were able on Monday to hand off control of Anbar Province to the Iraqis.

But Nouri Al-Mailiki's largely-Shi'ite administration has never been too keen on the mostly-Sunni fighters. The Awakening Councils were promised government jobs by the tends of thousands. But Baghdad "has approved only 600 applicants thus far," Gareth Porter noted, "and most of those have turned out to be Shi'a rather than Sunni militiamen." Meanwhile, Maliki has been slamming down on the Sons of Iraq, with apparently American backing. "Our goal is that by June 2009, the Sons of Iraq are out of business," Lt. Col. Jeffrey Kulmayer recently said.

And that was before the central government's takeover. The New York Times says it's "not clear whether the Iraqi government... had given the Americans or the Awakening forces assurances about how long, or even whether, it would keep the patrols intact."

12. Obama said last night that the surge "succeeded beyond our wildest dreams."
Though he qualified it after that saying it doesn't change the fact that it hasn't hastened political reconciliation.

14. The Book
Will be a good counter than to any McBush Points, and of course he qualified it because he has said all along that there were many other factors involved in the quelling of violence. Looks like he was right, again.

than the ridiculously narrow terms McBush is insisting on.
