John McCain and the Sundown Effect....Are his medicals out?
Edited on Fri Sep-05-08 09:35 AM by pacoyogi
I think what I saw last night---the poor speechifying, the agitation, word stumbling, restlessness---

I think the guy has Sundown Syndrome, common in early-stage dementia. Has anyone looked at his medicals or tracked how he does day vs. night?

Is this part of the reason he wants 'townhall style' debates? Because he will be able to wander/move? Is this why Palin was announced during the day?

Is he on any dementia drugs, like rivastigmire (Exelon), donepezil (Aricept), or galantamine (Reminyl).

Having been around older people with this syndrome, I was startled by MCCain last night...

2. I've thought he has been losing it for awhile now.
I remember noticing it with Reagan, long before he was out of office.

3. He reminds me of my grandfather.
The next stage is trying to trip people with your cane.

Then comes swearing like a stevedore after a lifetime of prudery. (!!)

After that -- and it happened quickly with my grandfather -- they forget everything except for distant memories, like wartime experiences (WW 2 in my g's case).

4. Absolutely. This is something every relative and caregiver deals with
both at early and mid-stage dementia. It's a major problem.

I very much doubt he is on any dementia drugs. That would be too big a tell.
