I don't think we should settle for anything less than his resignation.

2. Reporter: "uppity?" "I'm going to quote you on that"
to herself: "holy fuck, this dude just called the Obamas uppity, and I've got it on tape".

11. COMPLETE bullshit
I'm from the south, it's EXACTLY what Eugene Robinson and David Gergen said it was, a RACIAL CODE TERM.

Anyone who's not from the south should read any novel on racial issues written by southerners and they'll find it too -- e.g. "To Kill a Mickingbird"

I won't say the anonymous poster above, who claims to be both black and a southerner, is making it up -- I haven't been around long enough to spot those types yet.

I'll let Eugene Robinson of the Washington Post and a true son of the south, David Gergen, say it:

The Washington Post's Eugene Robinson weighs in on Westmoreland's use of the term:

I love it when everybody’s cards are on the table.

A spokesman for the congressman said later that his boss didn’t realize that term has long been used to describe African Americans who don’t know their place. If so, he is the only born-and-bred Southerner alive who is so oblivious.

David Gergen discussed use of the strategy and referred to the term weeks ago:

http://loomisnews.wordpress.com/2008/08/04/gergen-mccains-mom-other-republicans-strategy-is-stupid-juvenile-using-code/">Gergen: Strategy is "Using Code"

As a native of the south, I can tell you... that's code for, 'he's uppity, he ought to stay in his place.' Everybody gets that who is from a southern background. We all understand that. When McCain comes out and starts talking about affirmative action, 'I'm against quotas,' we get what that's about."

Now who the hell is this guy?

Sounds like a drooling dolt.

Is he a football player or something?

On edit: He's a Georgia Congressman! No wonder he sounds like he might have been a jock before winning a popularity-contest election!

Ignorant bastard.

8. But 'Uppity' is a racially loaded term!
Uppity is rarely used to refer to whites.

Historically, 'uppity' was used specifically to refer to blacks who didn't 'know their place' or tried to 'act white'.

This dumb fucker may not know it, but he used a racist term... 3 or 4 times within a few seconds... to describe an African American man and his African American wife.

12. you are corect.........except
usually does not refer to whites in the context of the rest of your statement.

Historically, 'uppity' was used specifically to refer to blacks who didn't 'know their place' or tried to 'act white'.

This term was in fact used historically "by Blacks" towards "blacks" as a way indicating that "uppity black folks" somehow viewed
themselves as superior to, better than, "elite" "to other blacks".

Historically, white folks had a whole lot of other descriptive terms for blacks and they did not mind using them.
I don't know what he meant by his statement. I know that it can be a loaded term for alot of black folks. I just don't think it's worth making a big deal over. Obama, being bi-racial, I am sure has been called a whole of things worst than this. No excuse.....just saying, given all that Obama stands for, and all the boundaries he has crossed, with alot of work still left to do,.... this one is just not a battle worth fighting..........just a distraction.

Obama has worked hard in this election to get where he is now and crossed racial boundaries in getting supporters that no black or white ever dreamed he could do. He has alot of white supporters. Others will hopelully join him in the next few days as soon as Palin's record comes more to the forefront. It's too late in the game to start talking about race and risking running potential new voters away.

just my opinion and I hope others will help talk this down as well.
