I don't mean to be so simplistic and dramatic, but that's what it all boils down to. There are some real tipping points that we will be facing the next few years. If McCain wins, that's it for climate change.

Also, do you really see important institutions like the EEOC, EPA, the FDA and FEMA withstanding another four years of Republican cronies? I'm guessing that any true professionals remaining in those agencies are holding out simply on the hope of electing a President that believes in their mission.

The Republicans made things clear this week. They will run on hate, fear and resentment. Had they chosen to run on the issues, any objective observer knows that they lose -- by a LOT. People have fallen for this crap before, will they again?

1. "Fooled me once, shame on me... fooled me twice..."
HOw does this quotation go?

"Never get fooled again?" Is that how W. mangled it?

The American people have been lulled into an intellectual coma
by the constant paplum of 'info-tainment,' fast food,
and easy to purchase cheap goods from China (who laughs at us BTW).

Don't challenge them with the facts,
don't make them get their keesters outta the chair to do anything,
don't make them mad.

Especially, don't challenge them with the idea that an African American
man could ever assume to challenge an old white POW.. who 'really' loves America.

2. Yes, basically, but has the game ever been different?
Power has always depended on the fallibility of mass perception.

4. No, not really. Although I do think that the decline of the media made it way worse.
It's just striking how high the stakes are this time around -- and that's not a cliche. Seriously, is there any chance we solve the climate crisis with John McCain and Sarah Palin in the WH?

3. If we are speaking envirnomentally, I'd say China.
They make us look like rookie polluters.

Culturally? Yes I agree. In terms of war, violence, and instability world wide? Yes I agree. In terms of economics? I kind of agree. China has bought tons and tons of our debt, if we go down, they're fucked. So yes it depends on this election, and no it doesn't China can stop buying our debt any time they want.

5. agreed
to quote John Stuart Mill:

I never meant to say that the Conservatives are generally stupid. I meant to say that stupid people are generally Conservative. I believe that is so obviously and universally admitted a principle that I hardly think any gentleman will deny it.

It looks like they are going to try another cycle of scaring the bejesus out of America, ..
Personally, I don't want a President who is someone I can share a beer with; I want the leader of my country to be a lot smarter than I am. I would hope that the best and the brightest, intelligent, compassionate and forward looking to be in charge, not some dipshit old coot who wants to continue this downward spiral of the past 8 years. This 'Obama is a Muslim', flag pin, 'elitist' crapola, to name just a few small examples, makes me want to tear my hair out in frustration at the level of debate that they are feeding us

6. it absolutely does,
and there is seemingly no end to the gullibility. I mean, really, how could Bush have gotten more than 10% of the vote after his disastrous, stolen, illegitimate first term? Stupid electorate.
We're not out of the woods, not even close.

7. Actually I think it boils down to

The insured future continuance of the financial aristocracy depends on the gullibility of the American people.

So in other words, they have nothing to worry about. But weather or not the lemmings buy the Palin slutting for Jesus routine or not will be corrected by Diebold anyway.
