STFU on the Palin outrage, Spiro Agnew same boat got us Nixon
Edited on Fri Sep-05-08 10:41 AM by Boz
FROM wikipedia
In 1962 Agnew ran for election as Baltimore County Executive, seeking office in a predominantly Democratic county that had seen no Republican elected to that position in the twentieth century, with only one (Roger B. Hayden) earning victory after he left. Running as a reformer and Republican outsider, he took advantage of a bitter split in the Democratic Party and was elected.
...
Agnew ran for the position of Governor of Maryland in 1966.
...
Agnew's moderate image, immigrant background and success in a traditionally Democratic state made him an attractive running mate for Nixon in 1968.
...
His vice presidency was the highest-ranking United States political office ever reached by either a Greek-American citizen or a Marylander. Agnew's nomination was supported by many conservatives within the Republican Party and by Nixon. But a small band of delegates started shouting "Spiro Who?" and tried to place George W. Romney's
... YES MITTENS DAD ... name in nomination. Nixon's wishes prevailed, and Agnew went from his first election as County Executive to Vice President in six years

Its happened before it can happen again from County Executive to Governor to VP, From Mayor to Governor to VP.

Lesson learned? Drop the outrage drop the demands for repair and the torches and pitchforks and IGNORE HER.

PUT YOUR EYE ON THE PRIZE AND STOP BEING SO FRIKKIN DISTRACTED BY THE NOBODY or we end up with another FRIKKIN NIXON and BUSH and ALL THE OTHER FACIST BULLSHIT AMERICA IS BECOMING.

MFING OBAMA BIDEN 2008 F*CK THE REST of the distractions

1. One difference.
Nixon didnt have one foot in the grave. McCain DOES. He posed a threat to our security by nominating someone so dangerously unprepared to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency.

7. Palin as a VP has a better chance
than any VP in history with the possible exception of John Tyler of actually becoming the POTUS.

Her Fundie background alone makes me damned afraid of her. Imagine this end-times whack-job actually able to destroy temple mount or whatever the fuck these nutcases want to do to bring about the holy rapture and whisk them all up to stand next to some dude unfortunate enough to piss off the Romans to the point that they nailed him to a giant plus sign.

3. Its 2008, not 1968...

We have the Internet.

We have the 24/7 news cycle.

We don't have an assassinated Robert Kennedy.

Obama is a stronger candidate than Humphrey.

There is no "George Wallace" in this election.

I could go into more reasons that the comparison doesn't add up, but my point is, its a different world, a different America and a totally different election.

Now, having said that. I think the focus on Palin should be minimal while the focus on John McCain should be the priority. But we should always consider ALL the variables when attempting to make historical comparisons.

8. Spiro Agnew had to resign
And pled guilty to tax evasion. Oh yeah, Sarah Palin may have some tax problems with that business she never claimed on her election filings. Maybe we need to remind people what happened that last time we nominated a nobody VP.

9. OTOH, exposing how terribly unqualified and corrupt Palin is
reinforces McCain's bad judgment - in his first executive decision, the picking of his running mate, he BLEW it! Portents of things to come.

Attacking Palin IS attacking McCain.

11. Doesn't mean shit to people that dont agree with you.
Thats the problem with this fight. Its predicated on logic and enforcement of rules that dont exist.

The only people that will pay attention to your point are people that will care about that. History has shown the american voter doesnt so why think they would start now, because they have to, why, because you say so, hasn't worked so far we still have George Bush.

NEXT SONG.

19. Its just such a wasted effort, distracting from the real point.
Speak all you want to hear yourself make your point about someone who doesnt matter.

Thats the problem, that how we lose.

Survival of a species: EAT FUCK REPEAT

Death of a species: EAT FUCK meander on about how someone should really do something about how unprepared that palin woman is, someone has to make he talk to the public, someone needs to point out this someone needs to point out that, some one needs to make this point someone needs to make that point, someone needs to point out this someone needs to point out that, some one needs to make this point someone needs to make that point, someone needs to point out this someone needs to point out that, some one needs to make this point someone needs to make that point, someone needs to point out this someone needs to point out that, some one needs to make this point someone needs to make that point, someone needs to point out this someone needs to point out that, some one needs to make this point someone needs to make that point, someone needs to point out this someone needs to point out that, some one needs to make this point someone needs to make that point, someone needs to point out this someone needs to point out that, some one needs to make this point someone needs to make that point, someone needs to point out this someone needs to point out that, some one needs to make this point someone needs to make that point, someone needs to point out this someone needs to point out that, some one needs to make this point someone needs to make that point, someone needs to point out this someone needs to point out that, some one needs to make this point someone needs to make that point, someone needs to point out this someone needs to point out that, some one needs to make this point someone needs to make that point, someone needs to point out this someone needs to point out that, some one needs to make this point someone needs to make that point,

21. omg, this is the strangest conversion I've had....Anyway, I disagree because
choosing Palin will very soon prove (if not already) that McCain has failed his first opportunity to demonstrate judgment and putting his "country first". In fact, if he were to get elected, (I'm stealing this) he's in fact one sunburn away from putting the country in real jeopardy.

The media is going to talk about Palin whether we like it or not. We might as well try to frame the discussion. And her skeletons are just going to keep drip, drip, dripping. Obama & Biden are doing the right by not talking about her. But we are vetting her now, and it doesn't look good for the repubs, imo.

with regards to Palin.

Thats the problem she only matters as a target to those that already are against her, which means spinning wheels, wasted effort, preaching the choir.

The media doesnt matter in the next 60 days, the repubs dont need the media, the media asks questions the repubs dont want to answer, the repubs need TV, they can pay for all the TV and have all the scripted stuff they want.

Your wasting so much energy on something that will never change the outcome. Why not use that effort on something that will.

25. Focus on McCain NO comparrisons between Obama and
Lady Cheney but she's definitely fair game, we just can't get overly caught up because it's still about McCain.

Soon, the hoopla around this skank will settle and she will be just a crutch for McCain to connect to his own base.

Democratic women need to be shouting her down but not based on experience but actions, policies, and the beliefs that shape her repressive world view.

Your assumption is someone is listening, what is it based on?

Just the fact that someone needs to hear it?
