The response to Bristol bonker Levi Johnston is absolutely surreal!

Help! I cannot get my mind around this. Here is an 18-year-old ne'er-do-well who knocked up the governor's 16-year-old daughter by having sex with her with no protection. And here is presidential candidate John McCain buddying up to this dope as if he had discovered a cure for cancer or started a home for handicapped children. (There is another photo of McCain hugging the little punk, but I couldn't find a copy quickly.)

They invited the guy who committed this sin to their convention!

What gives? I would have thought this would be seen as a horrible infraction of the "abstinence only" rules Barbie wants to impose on everyone else's family. It is simply not a Good Thing, at 18, to make a 16-year-old girl pregnant, and not just any 16-year-old girl, no, this was the frackin' governor's frackin' daughter!

But no. Instead of being criticized or punished, this lout is given the full Red Carpet Treatment, including a chat with McCain, a known womanizer himself, and the two of them are praised to the skies. Their bastard child is a "blessed gift from God". She made a "courageous choice" by deciding not to abort the child and be dispatched straightaway to Hell.

Holy Hannah. This is just too psychotic for me. Is it really happening?

1. was she 16 at the time?
that would be statutory rape according to Alaska law.

3. No, it wouldn't.
16 is the age of consent and it isn't statutory rape unless the age difference is three years.

Hence a 15 year old making it with an 18 year old would be statutory rape, but the minor has to be under 16.

27. Seems to be a both and situation
Edited on Fri Sep-05-08 12:22 PM by LittleClarkie
Minor is 16 and adult is 18 or older AND is at least three years older than minor.

A bit hard to read, it seems to be saying two things at once.

"being 18 years of age or older, the offender engages in sexual contact with a person who is 16 or 17 years of age and at least three years younger than the offender, and the offender occupies a position of authority in relation to the victim."

How can someone be 18, have sex with a 16 or 17 year old, and then also be three years older than the minor at the same time?

Here's a link I found.

36. ermm, here's what is says:
(a) An offender commits the crime of sexual abuse of a minor in the third degree if ... (2) being 18 years of age or older, the offender engages in sexual penetration with a person who is 16 or 17 years of age and at least three years younger than the offender, and the offender occupies a position of authority in relation to the victim ...

(a) An offender commits the crime of sexual abuse of a minor in the fourth degree if ... (2) being 18 years of age or older, the offender engages in sexual contact with a person who is 16 or 17 years of age and at least three years younger than the offender, and the offender occupies a position of authority in relation to the victim."*

Glad you're not my lawyer.

15. While I was looking for info about her age, I found this tidbit.
It's a comment on an article on the Huffington Post.

Well I am new to this area, so I have not seen if anyone has talked about his age. The stories that are floating around up here (in Alaska) are: that Levi is over 18 and this is his second child (or possibly third) IF it comes to pass that Sarah never had that pregnant waddle. Another interesting story twisting in the winds of glacial silt up here is that Track Palin at the age of 16 (just a mere 2 years ago) helped to do some serious vandalism on our school buses. I only remember being shock at the time at how much tires/windows on buses cost. At the time they did not release names because of being under age. I hear tell that patriotism isn't exactly why he joined the service, more like service or juvi. Hey but they sure are a proud bunch.

8. Ya know,
this has to be causing a great amount of pain for the fundies (something I certainly would encourage). This is everything they think is wrong and sinful and yet they are being asked, forced actually to accept it wholly without question. As hard as it is for us to wrap our minds around that think what it must be doing to them. Add to that the fact that women are not supposed to be in charge of anything and you got yourself a real mind clusterfuck.

Encourage them to think about this, ask them how this works. Before long we just may see those heads exploding. They are either against the "sin" or they are for the "sin". They can't have it both ways and maintain any kind of superior moral stance. That could just break their strangle hold on this country.

I doubt that dismissing some of their own 'rules' is hard for them to do at all. They don't require logic... just cues / instruction from their leaders.

19. Nope, because they always rationalize the sins of one of their own.
It's part of the psychosis of what they believe (I know--I have extended family who are fundies). They can screw around, get knocked up or get abortions, be addicted to drugs--none of that matters. They only pounce on outsiders who do this.

It's not doing anything to them, and they have no problem accepting it. That's part of what makes the fundies so fucked up.

23. It's the hypocrisy, my friend. It makes me crazy.
Palin's support for both "abstinence only" and non-abstainer Levi. McCain making a point of validating Levi by chatting with him as if he had accomplished something other than screwing a young girl and knocking her up.

In other settings what the kids have done is denounced, not praised, by supporters of these same two people, both of whom are running for office, by the way.

It's the hypocrisy.

18. "Bonker?" Man, how many funny names they got

I once thought "Barack Obama" was an odd name.

But, it has made it easier to deal with a family who named their kids Yodel, Tripod, Wrench, Turd and Slingshot.

Didn't know they had a Bonker, but it seems a new one is peeking out from under the sofa about every 20 minutes.

Someone needs to make a "What's your Palin Family Name" generator, which tells you your name and who your parents might be.

After all, to have the brainwashed repub rabble fall in line, they have to see their Leerless Feeder accept the punk. If McCain embraces him, and Palin's family trots him around like the ideal future son-in-law, then everything's all right. Right?

Do as you're told...accept...believe...

37. American Teenage Idols
They have been treated like the heroic exemplary teen couple of the year. They are our new youths mentors setting an example of justification of teenage unprotected sex. They are not to be pity for their indiscretion, but congratulated. What are your kids to think when the daughter of the potential Vice President of the United States and her teen lover are glorified on nation television. Wouldn't you have thought that Sarah Palin would have declined to protect his child from being pushed into the national spotlight? These people seem to know no shame.
