Probably he was meaning to say .. Foeticide( or Feticide) a broad term that includes abortion but also includes the killing a fetus deliberately such as kicking the belly of a pregnant women.

I don't know all the details, but it was a state issue about legislation concerning what to do when an attempted abortion goes wrong and the baby is born alive. In other words, do you give medical care to that baby (who has already been born). The RW is saying that Obama voted to NOT give medical care to such a baby. Hence, the charge of infanticide.

I mean the evidence is always right there in print or recorded audio. They are notoriously hard cases to win but I think if a few people threatened and tried more often it might make the advertisers take notice. State Senate. There was a bill that was supposed to guarantee medical for any baby actually born as a result of a botched abortion. Obama voted againt it, but he explained SEVERAL TIMES already! The wording in that bill would have made it possible to put Drs. in JAIL and would also undermine Roe. He also explained that Shrub and the Congress in Wa. put together a similar bill but corrected the language, and he agreed with that one, which DID PASS!

This is just another Pub tactic of cherry picking PART of a fact and elminiating just enough of the total story to distort it's meaning.

did receive an email with that rumor in it. I KNEW that couldn't be right, so I looked it up. All I was saying here was what the radio idiots were doing and their distortion of the facts creates a LIE.

I've been on other boards where the distortion on this issue is so huge that it would literally not be worth the effort to explain Obama's reasoning as to why he voted against it. From what I understand, the bill was a backdoor attempt at weakening Roe and was pretty much rejected on **both sides** of the aisle just for that reason.

But the pro-birth crowd has it in its head that Obama wants babies to die. You cannot argue with them because their irrationality on this issue precludes any kind of sane debate. And, really, how can you have any kind of discussion with them when they even view the use of contraceptives as infanticide?

Facts are the casualty in an uproar .. But atleast they will stop F'ing with us.

Honestly I wish Obama had done more to neutralize some of the power of the abortion issue early on. There are many many people of faith who love much of what he stands for, but they cannot reconcile themselves to voting for someone who is so adamantly in support of abortion rights. I know that's not a popular view around here... but that's what I see from where I sit.
