Fellow DU'ers, I am in need of some serious
pep talking right now. (I should have never watched frickin' Palin and Guiliani on Wednesday night!). I have been so depressed ever since. For some stupid reason, I feel very hopeless about our prospects in November. I absolutely did not feel that way prior to subjecting myself to watching the RNC.

P.S. I'm sorry to put more hand-wringing out there, I know that's not what we need.

x(

8. I go through cycles of it too. Was feeling great after DNC.. not as good this week. It
all depends on what I am seeing on TV, which probably isn't a very good indicator of anything anyway. (Other than the media's crappy way of "reporting" these days.)

2. When I find myself feeling like this
I donate to Obama or the DNC. I would imagine you volunteering for the campaign would have a similar effect. By doing something, the helpless feelings are dispelled.

3. My suggestion
Go out and bait a wingnut.

Once you get into telling them how lame McSame and the Caribou-Barracuda are compared to Obama Biden
you will feel better.

Pay more attention to the substance and less to theatrics.
If you need a firm reference, go back and look at crowd shots for the two acceptance speeches.

That should tell you quite a bit.

5. It's funny. I've never felt so confident and happier than right now. Cheer up. It was their
turn and they flung a lot of shit at us but we have the best ticket and ground game. McLame voted with Bush 90% of the time and Team Obama will hammer that home over the next 2 months. We will win.

7. OK - I watched old Fred, the Ghoul and Palin and was where you are. Take heart!
1. I decided to NOT watch any last evening - I just read DU and watched a few of the wrap shows. Felt better, slept better.
2. Simple math - McCain = Bush. that is a simple message. Palin is in hiding.
3. more simple math - 93% - that is the percent of old grumpy white people at the RNC - they've cast off all minorities.
4. Obama is brilliant and able. Biden is brilliant and able. Obama's staff know what they are doing.
5. Even despite the RNC's hate fest, the polls and maps don't appear to have shifted appreciably toward McCain. So it is all up from here.
6. No ideas, no solutions. The RNC will not win any new voters. They solidified their base - so what? the base is getting as shriveled as the members themselves!

just a few positive thoughts for ya

10. I feel the same way lately.
I live in Florida and we're really, really stoopid here.

I thought Kerry was a lock in 2004, and worked my ass of for him, just to watch them blow it. I have a bad, bad feeling. And I didn't watch any of the repuke convention, other than what the Daily Show broadcast.

And watch tonight's shows, which I imagine will be funnier than the past three shows.
I promise these will help you to feel better.

14. I felt that way yesterday, but not today
They were so vicious on Wednesday, but after last night's highly mediocre speech and Obama now being free to take them on, I'm feeling very confident.

Perk up and just wait for our Candidates to get busy.

We'll win this thing at a walk.

the jerry springer show redux pukefest... (but it's no time to relax: get to work!).

Yesterday: (+20 Electoral Votes: OH!! no less) :)

Today: (+3 Electoral Votes: ND!!): :)

http://www.electoral-vote.com/

"home-phone" polling only (i.e. doesn't include "cell-phone" data, and a lot of newly registered young voters don't have home-phones, just cells)

keep it up!!

16. May I recommend this blog to you?:
http://mudflats.wordpress.com/

This is a blogger in Alaska who has been writing about the Palin story. But don't just read the posts, read the comments. Literally hundreds and hundreds on each post-- people fired up all over the country.

He/she's been blogging on local Alaska issues since May '08, but suddenly Google shows "mudflats blog" as one of its auto-fill-ins with 98,100 results!!

It's easy to watch the MSM and get sucked into the Maverick & the Mommy BS, but in reality-based America the truth is getting out and people are working to slap McSame and the Snowbilly DOWN!

19. Obama should have picked Hillary if he wanted to win for sure. Nonetheless, we will still win!
I'm worried, but I still believe we have the advantage.

I still expect us to win in November.

I just wish McSame had picked an old, white, rich male.

Obama should have picked Hillary. If he had, the McSame/Palin ticket would look lame.

20. Try to be patient. The newness has to wear off a bit, and the truth will come out. It's already
starting to happen. The few true conservatives & intellectual republicans there are left are PISSED. Yes, the redneck trailer crowd is in love, but this too shall pass. I give it a few weeks, and McCain's pick of Sarah Palin will be seen for what it is - a total lack of respect and disregard for the office for which he is running. Absolutely reckless.

Edited on Fri Sep-05-08 12:24 PM by WA98296
immediately go watch the Obama's acceptance speech, and notice the 84,000 people there who were deeply moved by his words. If that isn't enough, that get up and volunteer for anything from phone banking to data entry! And, you can ALWAYS come here and get some perspective.

I think it was Gretzky who said 'You miss 100% of the shots you don't take'...

We will get out of this election what we put into it. Right now there's some office near you that can use a volunteer, phone banking or somethin'...

Let's do this, Spartans!

oh, and a big hug - it'll be fine.

27. Two things to remember. Taxation and Social Security.
First: Big Hug to you!!! :grouphug:

We can win on these two items alone. Everything else is a distraction whether it comes from us or from them.

Calculate your tax cut: http://alchemytoday.com/obamataxcut/

McCain's tax cuts will only benefit those at the top, Obama's benefit those at the bottom, per the graphic below.

Social Security, raising the cap to keep SS solvent is the only solution and, like taxes, help the vast majority of Americans.

If we and the campaign can explain these two items with clarity and simplicity, only an idiot or millionaire will want McCain to win.
