Bush was all but ignored and Cheney was completely ignored. Bush spoke briefly and Cheney didn't speak at all, and virtually no one talked about either of them.

Any idea if there have been other conventions where the VP didn't speak, and the President gave such a brief speech?

I think it was utterly humiliating treatment of the President and Vice-President, and that should be pointed out to the 30% of the American public that (amazingly) still thinks Bush is doing a good job.

1. The closest precedent I can find is the Democratic Convention of 1860
But then, I don't think US history has ever had a 2nd term president leave on such a sustained low note. Had he beaten the removal trial in the Senate in 1974, Nixon might've gotten that treatment in 1976. It's not a perfect parallel, but LBJ was pretty much scrubbed from party history four years after he left office in the 1972 convention in Miami Beach.
