How Dare The GOP...

I know many have written about this, but I just had to add my
voice.

Probably many of you like me were in front of the TV this week
watching the Republican National Convention looking to get a
glimpse of the GOP’s plans for our country should they get
elected this November.

After all for me it is my Senator, John McCain who is the
nominee for the party. Now I have had a lot of respect for him
over the years…some has cooled (I will be honest) because of
his political support for virtually all the failed efforts of
the Bush administration…but nonetheless, he is my Senator here
in Arizona.

My expectations were high, given the details of the plan the
Democrats had laid out during their turn on TV last week. I
mean we got a pretty good picture of policy and plans and some
(although I want to see more) of the economic, energy and
foreign policy actions we could see from a Dem president. I
was looking for the “beef“ on the Republican side.

I was sorely disappointed…and HOW DARE THE GOP evoke images of
the terrorist attacks on 9-11 by showing a video. Why? Did
they do it to pander to us and make us shutter in fear? Fear
doesn’t motivate me…besides it is the same old tactics that
Bush used to get in office….and we all have been living the
results of that.

So…all I saw were right wing talking points and more policy
snip-its of the Bush agenda….btw from virtually ALL the
speakers. Are you kidding me? More of what we have seen? Less
jobs? (Call it bad timing if you want but did you notice that
the unemployment numbers went up again…and it was announced
during the convention.) More money for the top 1% of wage
earners? More oil profit and tax cuts? No plan for ending
Iraq? Talking tough about Iran…and now Russia?

Then there was the smearing of the Dems with the same old
words, half truths and out and out lies. Why does this have a
place in our political picture? Why do we allow it?

You want to know the irony? Every single attack made against
Obama and Biden, every single comment and sound bite to make
them look “bad” in America’s eyes…everyone that was uttered by
Graham, Lieberman, Romney and ever Palin and McCain…can be
rebuffed and proven to be lies. You know how? The internet.

Maybe that is part of the issue when you have a 72 year old
self proclaimed technology neophyte who may bot even use
email, or needs help from his wife to get on the computer. If
that is the case, maybe he doesn’t yet realize that facts and
the reality of voting records and actions are available at our
fingertips. Wouldn’t you think an advisor would advise?

Maybe that is their strategy. They are banking that we the
voters will not do our due diligence and check the facts. That
really says a lot about their view of their constituency…and
is a sad statement if we let it happen.

Just check out sites referenced here at DU….of course we do
not see much of it much of it in the main stream media by the
way…it is a corporate thing I guess.

As a vet and military retiree, I am keenly interested in
support for the troops both in the field and here at home.
Think about it….If you had to guess…would you think it was
McCain (Vet/POW) or Obama how has supported the troops more
over the past few years?

I am not talking about the words they say, I am talking about
voting in the senate since they have both been there…their
record on veterans issues.

If you guessed McCain, you would be WRONG. His voting record
is abysmal for supporting legislation that helps vets either
in the field, back at home or on their benefits. He has a
“20%” rating by the Disabled American Vets…and a “D” rating by
the Iraq and Afgan Veterans group. Obama? 80% and B+.

Besides all of that you would be hard pressed to identify when
McCain actually shows up to vote on important bills. He has
the worst attendance record n the congress. Which makes you
wonder: What is important enough to get him off the campaign
trail? America first? Sounds like McCain first to me.

I will say that I respect Sen. McCain for his service and
heroism in Viet Nam. I also certainly think he deserves his
Navy retirement pay and disability pension (and Social
Security) he is drawing for his service…but that experience
and his years as a POW does NOT qualify him to be president.
His policies matter…and I do not see much to vote for here.

Want to know the bottom line? After the speeches were
finished, my wife did something we have NEVER done before in a
political campaign…she donated money to the Obama/Biden
effort.

You can too…if you have not yet contributed..
