The white racists are making their last stand.
This eruption of adulation for Sarah Palin is nothing more than the last gasp of white racism in the United States of America. They're scared to death that a black man might actually get to be president. Worse yet, the black man is obviously smarter and more accomplished than they are.

It's inevitable that they would find a white woman - a mother of five children - to come riding to the rescue. There are times when only mama will do.

Sarah Palin is tailor-made to bring comfort and reassurance to the white racists who simply can not grasp the reality of the world, who live in a fantasy land in which Aryans really are a superior race and everyone else - including those Godless liberals and damned homoseckshuals - are mud people intent on destroying the white Eden.

Many of the issues that intelligent, thoughtful, non-terrified people have about Sarah Palin are actually pluses in the tormented minds of the white racists. Her experience - like her message - is "appropriate" for a wife and mother. She's literally a hockey mom who just kept cheerleading at bigger venues, ending up as governor of that cute wild-west state way up there wherever it. There's nothing in Sarah Palin's past that is threatening to scaredy-cat retrograde racists. It's not like she was a senator in Washington, D.C. or anything so unfeminine as that!

Sarah Palin loves guns. Check - so do white supremacists who are scared of all these mud people being given rights.
Sarah Palin shoots wolves and bears from helicopters. Doesn't everybody? What you g*ddamn lib'rals gonna tell me what to do?
Sarah Palin wouldn't let that pansy sheriff close the bars in the middle of the night? Served him right to get fired!
Sarah Palin belongs to an extremist church. Check - so do the mamas of the scared white supremacists.
Sarah Palin's daughter is pregnant and her son's grades mean he's headed to Iraq. Check - sounds just like the white supremacists' families.
Sarah Palin had an affair? Why not? She's hot!!!
Sarah Palin doesn't approve of abortion? Neither do the white supremacists. We need more white babies!!! Look at Sarah Palin's white babies and white grandbaby! What could be better??!!

The only way to fight Sarah Palin is to peel off the votes of the genuinely uncommitted yet thoughtful people. The only way to do that is to point out what a *lousy* manager she's been. She left her little town tens of millions of dollars in debt when the rest of Alaska is booming.

4. This has nothing to do with north vs south. I've lived in both and they're equally full of racists.
The Klan has historically been most powerful in several midwestern states.

9. Pennsylvania. Hate groups are bigger in Pennsylvania.
Edited on Fri Sep-05-08 05:06 PM by Patiod
For example, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, Pennsylvania hosted more Klan rallies in the 1990s than Alabama did.

Pennsylvania has the highest ratio of hate groups east of the Mississippi River.

15. There ya go...lol
I was born in Alabama and have relatives there, raised in a little town outside of Pittsburgh (very racist), and now live in a very red area of North Carolina.

That's why I feel so strongly.

3. This is much much deeper than playing the race card.
Edited on Fri Sep-05-08 04:56 PM by yardwork
There are people out there who are terrified. They shoot up churches from time to time. The Southern Poverty Law Center notes that the number of hate groups has risen astronomically since 2000. Check it out: http://www.splcenter.org/index.jsp

Edit to fix link.

6. Oh, they are terrified....I've been talking to them the last few weeks....
I grew up with them and am still surrounded by them.

That's why I did the BRING IT ON thread that others are saying we shouldn't do.

They are TERRIFIED that if Obama is elected, he will bring "retribution" to white people.

They are TERRIFIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's why I believe this issue, which is really at the core of soooooo much of what is wrong in this country, needs to be brought to the surface completely.

If people hold back, on either side, it's never going to heal.

They resent not being able to say what they want, and these are people who have been proud, vocal racists their whole lives and suddenly are saying everything under the sun EXCEPT that they won't vote for him because he's black.

8. One of these types was a caller on CSPAN a few weeks ago.
He said that Obama "was the most dangerous man in America". He was dead serious.

It sounds crazy as hell but they really do think all he is interested in is "payback time".

It makes me wonder if they have ever met any successful black people before.

11. And, what always drives me insane is the hypocrisy
Like I said, as with other DUers, I have been surrounded by and heckled by (for lack of a better word) these types my entire life.

The only positive thing I could say or think about that thinking was that they were OPEN and HONEST about it.

They've suddenly become subversive about their racism since Obama's candidacy.

THAT is dangerous.

THEY ARE LESS DANGEROUS IF THEY ARE BROUGHT OUT INTO THE OPEN and called on their hypocrisy.

Remember, these people take pride in thinking this way. That's why when I called Palin out, as a representative of all of them, they will get pissed and say what they really feel. Granted, if not Palin herself, her followers sure as shit will.

People don't seem to have a problem goading McCain to have his temper revealed; why not encourage the racists to own up to it?

In my opinion.

10. As a white woman, I'm ready to bring it on.
I realize that some people disagree. We are all welcome to our opinions. This is a message board designed for the exchange of ideas.

I know for a fact that violent, fear-based racism is a terrible problem in this country and I'm not going to ignore it. Also, as a lesbian, I'm at risk. In fact, we're all at risk.

The dysfunctional racist low-lives are a threat to everybody else, including themselves. They routinely die young from peer-inflicted violence and high-risk behaviors. They're unbelievably bad parents. Domestic violence? Child abuse? Substance abuse? And not all of this is going on in stereotypical poor rural families. I could tell things that nice upper-class white women have told me about their families that would curl the hair of the average liberal.

If the impact of their votes weren't so dreadful for the rest of us, we could afford to simply laugh in derision at the irony of *these people* claiming to be some kind of superior race!

14. I agree with you wholeheartedly...
I am rarely adamant and insistent about such things, but because I'm experiencing it directly these last few weeks, I see the necessity to call them out.

It's finally working. By saying what I said in the bring it on thread to others in real life, they are owning up to it.

See, if we get them to own up to the racism thing, all the other bullshit stops!

The "he's a muslim," "his name scares me", etc., etc.

It all comes down to him being BLACK.

MAKE THEM OWN UP TO IT, I say. They want to anyway...they're proud of it...but their fear at the retribution if he wins is huge.

THEREFORE, THEY WILL DO ANYTHING TO KEEP HIM FROM WINNING. THEY LIVE IN FEAR OF HIM WINNING, JUST AS WE DO WITH THE REPUBLICAN TICKET.

Sorry for the all caps for emphasis...too tired to do html....too tired to proof

16. I agree with you and share your strong emotions about this.
Reality check. What rational person would seriously consider voting for McCain/Palin over Obama/Biden?

I know that somebody will come on here and say, well there are legitimate areas of differing opinions....blah blah blah. B.S. No rational person could compare those tickets for two minutes and see any contest.

(The only exception I would grant would be those who vote only on the basis of abortion laws. Those people are nuts in a different way and we can't reach them. There's significant overlap between them and the racists, anyway. Not a 1:1 correlation, but quite a bit of overlap.)

Everyone else has absolutely no excuse for choosing McCain/Palin over Obama/Biden. None.

12. My SIL thinks Obama will "favor" black people
She's a nurse, and works with a TOUGH group of LPNs (black and white) in the city. She doesn't get along with any of them, but for some reason blames the black nurses, although the white and Filipino nurses sound just as difficult and annoying.

She was "explaining" to us that Obama will "favor" "the blacks"

How? Special "black-only" tax cuts? Special vacation days when everyone but black people have to go to work? Free college for all black people, but no one else? Free cars? All declared unilaterally, with no input from the legislative or judicial branches? WTF?

This isn't a logic thing.

So -- we have to get plenty of young people and independents and other folks who normally stay home to counter them. To be sure their party can't steal it. GOTV.

13. I've heard the same fear, even from Democrats.
The irony is that this is the very first time in the history of our nation that a black person has even been a nominee for president, and yet these folks don't seem too worried about all the special rights that white people had for hundreds of years.

I wonder sometimes if they're worried about payback. Are white racists afraid that Barack Obama will be as cruel to them as they and their ancestors have been to blacks?

19. I think it is worry about payback.
I think some people have no idea what power a president has and have no grip on reality. Even if we humored them for a second, and bought into their idiotic fantasy of Obama wanting to favor black people and punish whites, how the heck would he do it? He'd just be president, not magic, hahaha.

26. Oh it goes much much deeper than fear of payback.
The real fear is fear of genetic annihilation. There are still some whites who fear that the white "race" will be gentically annihilated from the planet if total integration occurs. This is because only about 10% of the world population is white and white birth rates are not keeping up with the rates of other ethnics.

Since the pecking order thus far in this country has been based upon the "one-drop" rule, there is really only white, and non-white. It takes two whites to produce a white. The offspring of any white plus non-white is always another non-white.

For some whites, it has nothing to do with the attitude of superiority anymore, but one of making sure the white "race" survives.

27. Payback? They just like the status quo.
If Obama is elected, black people will finally be able to feel like everyone else. It is ironic and horrific that it has ever been any different. I think the prejudice whites are worried that they won’t be able to feel better than other people as a matter of course. I sure as hell hope so! I agree, prejudice is a stupid and cruel notion and it has gone on way too long.

I was shopping at a hardware store and a young, black salesperson offered me assistance. I swear I could feel the relief and hope emanating from him. Even having Obama run for POTUS has helped.

23. Actually, it's not.
It's the "hatred or intolerance of another race or other races."

It flows in many different directions. But it's the white racists who are deeply entrenched and emboldened by Palin's candidacy.

It's sad that so many people are afraid that there would be some sort of "payback" against them from a "minority" should that "minority" come into power. And for those in towns and cities or even states who have had an AA mayor or governor, they quickly find out that we are no different than they. There are corrupt ones and there are honorable ones. In essence, "poltics is color blind".

29. Hit Nail on Head
All you had to do is look at the faces at that convention. They used to at least sprinkle a few blacks in the crowd. First night there were even a total lack of females! Anyway..sad to note that saw report that Unions are having a devil of a time with their guys because they just outright tell the Union "won't vote for no n___". We need to get Biden to those unions to talk some intelligence into their heads...like McCain proposes now taxing your company's contribution to your health plan, etc. Only "showing them the money" will make them "lower" themselves to vote Black. This country has the balls to go around the world preaching how great and Christian it is!! It's a douche bag teetering on the brink of collapsing.
