Do I hear a "Hell yeah from 10 DU donors?"

If so, we need a proposed mission statement. The Sarah Palin Rumors Group would exist for the duration of this election and would free up the GD:Presidential for more "pressing" discussion about the election.

Until then, they don't belong there because the site is turning into tabloid fodder.

20. PROBLEM IS: that other action oriented posts, about organizing and election fraud for instance
are getting buried. So any fresh blood coming to DU to get oriented will be hit with gossip. To be constructive it should be a separate group so other more important topics can been seen, especially by newcomers.

It keeps the clutter out of GD and GDP.

It keeps the high-roaders from being offended at the topics.

It cuts down on the lectures.

It allows people more freedom to let loose and really kick around the evidence.

It'll make it handy to find the threads on the topic.

I probably wouldn't actively post in the new Group, but I would definitely actively read it, occasionally contribute my two cents, and I do think it's a great idea to separate those threads while they're still in the "paleontology" phase.

For the sake of DU's collective sanity, it would probably be more productive to keep GD-P more focused on our next POTUS, Barack Obama. :woohoo:

51. The formation of a group doesn't get rid of the rumors
it gathers them all in one place for discussion. No one's suggesting that we stop talking about Palin, but simply separate fact from rumor and have the discussions about rumors in one cohesive area until they are substantiated. That way, Palin rumors won't push more important matters off our discussion board.

Also, when information is posted in one group, it makes it easier to find specific threads and references. For example, if I want to debunk an e-mail, I go to the DU Debunker. When I want info about Biden, I go to that group, etc.

At least two proposed groups that I know of within the past three months (both with plenty of donor support + mission statement) never received replies after submission for approval.
