Religious Fundamentalists marriage to Hard Right warned about in 1981 by Rev. Billy Graham
These general elections are wrought with heavy-handed politicizing of "GOD", and it has always bothered me. I was just sent this quote, and wanted to share it. I've always liked Billy Graham, and this is yet another reason why I like him.

"I don't want to see religious bigotry in any form. It would disturb me if there was a wedding between the religious fundamentalists and the political right. The hard right has no interest in religion except to manipulate it."

Rev. Billy Graham, February 1, 1981

1. Graham has always been a good soul
I don't agree with religion in general, but I respect him in particular.

5. You need to read. William Graham has not "always been a good soul".
Edited on Sat Sep-06-08 03:55 PM by David Zephyr
The circus tent salesman -- that a couple of newspaper tycoons made into a media star -- has a long and dirty history of anti-semitism, playing footsie with right-wing politicians, and being the darling dictators around the world who oppressed and tortured and murdered their own people who allowed him to "preach" in their countries.

You need to read more.

You need to avail yourself to William Graham's whispering against Jews to Richard Nixon which is all on audio tape unless you choose to "not believe your lying ears."

William Graham has hurt the hearts and minds of young homosexual kids driving them to suicide rather than "hurt" their parents by telling the truth about just who they are.

You can take "Billy" Graham and shove him up someone else's ass, but he has not "always been a good soul."

2. Did Billy really say that? And I was putting Billy in a Pat, Jerry, and Billy triumvirate when
trying to read between the lines of one of Billy's sermonites before the 2004 general election. :P

3. oh, yeah, you don't wanna compare them to those 'reverends'.
Billy is a lot more practical and down to earth, lives in his home of eons out in the country and is a loving soul.

best to you!

6. Had always been a fan of Billy after attending one of his early crusades in late '40s-early '50s
until interpreting one of his sermonites in the newspaper as supporting junior in '04 (and assumably his pre-emptive wars of aggression) and that soured me forevermore. Sorry, Billy, if I misread your message. :D

4. Erling Jorstad warned about it in 1970.
"The Politics of Doomsday."

Remember, folks, that the far right teamed up with Barry Goldwater in 1964 -- even Goldwater called them "kooks" -- and got their asses handed to them on a silver platter.

This is nothing new. Unfortunately, the Dems have NEVER learned their lesson.
