Sarah Palin may have women flocking - to Barack Obama
BY KENNETH R. BAZINET and MICHAEL McAULIFF
DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU

Saturday, September 6th 2008, 1:54 PM

EMILY's List was perhaps the first to sing out about an opportunity rather than a threat from Palin, pointing to a poll it had done a couple of days after McCain selected the Alaskan moose huntress.

The survey of 800 women likely voters said Obama holds an 11-point lead on McCain, and that women Hillary voters in particular flooded the Illinois senator's way.

Before the Palin pick, Obama led McCain by 44 points among female Clinton backers. That jumped to a 54-point lead afterward, 75% to 21%, the poll said.

20. Wow, you did just what I was thinking about sitting out by the fire...
I was at the rally in St. Paul on Monday, and was thinking about some of the creative signs I saw there, and thought of just what you have there, except without the increase in size thing.

Beautiful! Love it!

14. She's that woman who sticks her heel in the middle of your forehead
and pushes down as she climbs the corporate ladder by flirting with and sucking up to the "ole boys". That after she steps on your back to climb onto the ladder.

She'll do whatever they tell her too and will act whatever way they want her to to get to the top. If she has to spit on every other woman's rights to do so, she will.

That's what she reminds me of.

21. You said it!
Women know Women

Not to say that women are always FAIR to other women, but in this case I would say that Palin has driven so many women to Obama because we're actually looking at her record and her ideals and finding them repulsive.

Why the Republicans think that they could put a PURPOSELY non-feminist candidate on their ticket and think that they could attract women voters, I will never understand. Her gender is meaningless besides her agenda.

7. I always knew the Hil supporters had their hearts in the right place.
It was Hil's war vote I opposed, and her difficulty getting elected.

Alot of the anger towards Palin would have been unleashed against Hillary, albeit undeservedly.

Of course the Hil supporters are coming around: Barack is the real deal and these monsters are going after everything she believes in.

9. When you treat women like objects, it's natural to assume they're interchangeable...

Nice to see women proving to McCain that's not the way it works.

In another week or so, the "Doesn't Get It" candidate will probably be asking himself, "What does it take to make those broads happy, anyway?"

He won't figure it out.

15. McCain's handlers are fools. Did they really think that we women
would be stupid enough to support a woman who has never done a thing for other women? Anti-choice, anti-equal pay, anti-funding for pregnant teens...the list goes on. Yeah, she's just like HRC.
:sarcasm:

Their biggest miscalculation was thinking that Democratic and Independent women are just like Repub women who believe the propaganda and fall into line.

"the Alaskan moose huntress"

Her penchant for hunting is the least of my problems with her.

Clearly, she represents a step backward for women's issues, and that is (or should be) the most obvious reason for women not to vote for the R ticket.

27. They choose an under qualified female VP,handed her a
scripted speech, are so fearsome of the truth becoming clear, (that she is stunningly unqualified) that they only wheel her out for what might as well be called "performances".They pass over many better qualified republican women for this amateur Phyllis Schlafly and cynically compare this light weight to Hillary Clinton! ANy woman who isn't absolutely appalled at this cynical play for the "female vote" is brain dead.

31. Umm.. can we really trust a poll conducted by a partisan group touting good news for themselves?
Seriously, I don't trust polls conducted by groups that are clearly prorepublican or prodemocrats, especially when they claim their own candidate is winning. Partisan polls often give their own candidate at least a 5% boost compared to what everyone else is getting that does the same polls.

The only time I'd ever trust a partisan poll is if they say their own candidate is losing.

If the poll asked why, the article doesn't report it. The rise in polls may have as much to do with Clinton and party unity as Palin.
