Palin to be MIA for *****2 weeks*******????

http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/09/in-hiding-for-t.html

This is incredible, totally incredible. A vice presidential candidate isn't going to be available to the press for two weeks? Two weeks? In September. We have this total unknown who could be president of the United States next January. And she's in hiding for two weeks. Chris Matthews on this clip says that this is fine. Has he lost his mind? She needs to be in front of the press now. The United States and the world cannot have this total unknown foisted on the presidency without any serious vetting and without any press interaction. This is absolutely third world. Since when is the governor of a state given two weeks in hiding?

34. But no face to face, answer these questions..sit here by yourself
with the media..for TWO weeks??

Being a smiling/waving prop on the stage is different than the above.

Guess McCain is between a rock and a hard place. Can't ask her to leave the ticket without him looking like an idiot, can't have her go fuck up every interview which will make them BOTH look like idiots (her for the answers she will give and him for picking her).

Guess he is waiting for the ol' repuke standby of "Sarah has spent the last 2 weeks with her family and really feels she and all the rumors swirling around are taking away from Sen McCain's message".

29. I'd like to see what he asked after the clip ended.
Edited on Sat Sep-06-08 09:49 PM by intheflow
It sounded to me like he asked for a date, Repuke gave him one after hemming a bit and kept hemming, and Matthews said, "Okay, two weeks, that's fine" meaning, "Fine, I asked for a date, you gave me one, now shut up and let's move on to what the Dem has to say." Not that it was fine for Palin to be out that long, but that his question had been answered and he wanted to move past the Repuke's stammering. That's what it sounded like to me. This is why I'd like to hear what came after, since it sounded like a throw-away remark and the clip ended almost immediately after that. Not that I'm some Tweety loyalist or apologist, but media can be manipulated by the left as well as the right, and I'd just like to see the whole segment before jumping to any conclusions about what Matthews meant. What I've seen of his response to Palin so far--and even earlier in that clip--is not favorable.

Edited because I forgot to spell check.

46. Tweety is worthless
Could you imagine if a Democratic Candidate was to do the same thing? All hell would break lose!

The two weeks is the time they are going to use to try to quash any negative stories out there about her, it is imperative that the Dems use that two weeks to find out all of the shit she has been involved in.

This is why whe Obama wins we must make the Tweety's of the world irrelevant.

Vaca was great. The weather was perfect, we trounced around the seashore in Maine, and cooled off.
Very beautiful up there.

My TV choices for a week were CNN. Then Faux. Oy! I missed DU, and m$nbc :hide: and to top it off, a pipe burst in the kitchen ceiling, which was all over the floor when we got home.

A memorable vacation, and now 2 months of hair pulling! :hi:

27. What a welcome home
I've got a broken kitchen pipe too, so I have a little sense of what you're feeling. My son was standing out on the front porch and comes running in, there's water running out from the house. We have a big brick planter right in front of the kitchen window, so the water has been leaking into it for who knows how long. It wasn't until it got so bad that it was running like a river that we noticed it. The floor under the dishwasher is ruined so we have to replace all that and a little in front of it. I don't know about the wall yet. My son in law is a contractor so it won't cost us much, but we also have to do it on his time schedule. Are you going to have to replace everything? Will your insurance cover it? Maybe it'll end up being a nice thing, once you get through it. I sure don't envy you.

Oh, and if you think Maine is beautiful, next year come up to the Pacific Northwest!! We've got snow-capped mountains, deep rainforests, waterfalls, and rocky ocean beaches, all within a days drive of each other. :)

Maine is gorgeous. I hope I get out there some day. I really want to go in the fall. Fly into Boston, toodle around, rent a car, drive through NH and VT and up to Maine. *sigh* Maybe someday.

Glad you're back.

That's what I think. They've sent her off to get the names of world leaders drilled into her head, to make her sound somewhat intelligible when asked a foreign policy question, that kind of thing.

When they figure she can sort of talk about this kind of stuff without having to read a script directly or sound like she's reading one...they'll roll her back out on the trail.

33. although this could actually work to their advantage
in a country that LOVES tabloidish type stories... think of the press camping out for the Michael Jackson trial or pick your story of the moment. But this could actually backfire, because there will be a HUGE contrast with our guy Biden out there on the campaign trail. He does not need to be holed with the experts, like Eliza Doolittle, learning about foreign policy. He IS the damn expert. I ultimately think that contrast, with Biden out there daily, will bode well for
us.

38. Here's the deal ...
She has performed her function by giving the VP speech. They were down to the wire and needed a speaker in the worst way. Enter Sarah Palin. Of course, she's a puppet, so it doesn't matter what she thinks, or doesn't think, or does or doesn't do.

In all likelihood, should, by some catastrophic twist of fate, become the Vice President of the United States, when duty calls she will simply go on family leave for the ensuing four years.

44. I don't see how she will be gone for 2 weeks
She is in NM tonight, and then they say she will be out on her own on Monday. So will she be in AK just tomorrow? I'm hearing too many conflicting stories on this. I feel this is all built up BS, and that even though she hasn't spoken with the media yet, that Rove et al are using this vague avoidance strategy to make her appear even weaker than she is, so that when she makes her debut in the next week, she will exceed all expectations.

Palin as a VP selection was the lesser of the evils and the pukes are going to exploit every and any tactic they can to push negative attention upon her, only to come back and say, we got you, she isn't as bad as you made her out to be.

Obama is on the right track. Ignore the issue of her participation at this point and only highlight direct criticisms she spews. Focus needs to reamain steadfastly and critically on McBush.

58. Republican strategy = do whatever you want
Just look at Bush/Cheney---since Day 1, they simply don't care and are allowed to get aways with it. I want to be optimistic, but it's pretty difficult!

66. This could work both ways...
If she continues to hide out from the media, then she's creating an opportunity to be defined by them. True, they miss some opportunities to let her hang herself, but allowing the MSM to define a candidate that is largely unknown is an extremely risky gamble that I can't see doing them any favors in the long run. I think people will start wondering what it is she's got to hide.

And don't hold your breath for the VP debate

It will be a commercial and Palin will stick
to script with no questions and she will get
the last word or the debate will not happen.

Mark my words.
