Today was the parish festival for my catholic church.
As a woman I know took over for me at the food booth, she asked about what I thought about Palin. I knew her politics was liberal, so we commiserated about how the appointment is an insult to women.
Later that evening, before I began my stint at another part of the festival, I ordered a burger. A man who was working, and who knew that I am a working mother said, "What do you think about McCain's vice presidential pick?" I said, "I don't understand why he would pick someone who has no experience? Especially since he's had cancer at least 3 times, and think about how old he is." "Reply, how old is he?" "72" The man answered "But she was so articulate, she gave such a good speech." I replied, "She just read a speech that someone else wrote." He looked more shocked, "Lots of people said it was a good speech." And I replied, "Then those people aren't thinking about who wrote the speech, and whether the skill of reading a speech is the same as the skill needed to President." The whole conversation was said in pleasant tones, so maybe at least he'll think a little bit about the pick McCain made.
