I know what my problem is
I'm looking at this race from a completely cerebral and logical manner.

I'm looking at the facts and I've made my choice for Obama. It has nothing to do with race for me as a Black man (I'm actually mixed race... but you get my point).

Were the races of Obama and McCain exchanged, I would still make the same decision.

However, for a lot of people in this country, their decision was made in a very viscerally emotional way. Facts hold very little sway for them. Logic is some fantasy land, inhabited by dancing faeries.

I don't understand these people, I'm sorry.

I'm not seeing the big picture and this freaks me out.

What I want to know is how so we get to these people? At what point will reality set in for them. What is the approach?

1. Yes, I have the same problem.
I read and try to figure out the facts and what people's policy positions and accomplishments are. But I am trying harder to relate to the other type of voter and communicate better with them. There was a good thread a few days ago with some pointers.

I went to an activist training once that dealt with this subject. The facilitator was funny. He asked, who watches 24 hour news channels on a regular basis? Everyone raised their hand. Then, Who watches CSPAN regularly? More than half the participants raised hands. Finally he asked, Who watches British Parliament on TV? And I swear there were a bunch of people who raised hands. Then he said, YOU GUYS ARE NOT NORMAL! Normal people do not watch British Parliament on TV for fun. And I think this applies to most DUers, too. We are not normal spending all this time online obsessing over politics.

2. Obama said something like they take pride in being ignorant.
He's right. Volunteering w/ the campaign has helped ease my frustration.

3. Me too. I'm in a PAC here in NH and I just signed onto Obama's
Neighborhood Campaign. That should be something almost everyone could do. Makes me feel better to be doing something rather than fretting.
