Obama Is Doing Great On "This Week"
Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 10:18 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
He comes off as relaxed, thoughtful, and linear in his thinking

McCane did awful on Face The Nation...He comes across as evasive, cliched, and scattered in his thinking..

What a contrast...

The electorate saddens me...

I don't know if this story is true or not but it is instructive...When Adlai Stevenson was running against Eisenhower a voter told him "all the smart people are voting for you" to which Stevenson allegedly replied "but I want to win"...

As an aside Ike was the Supreme Allied Commander and was a key player in the defeat of fascism...He didn't finish two places from last in his class at West Point and crash five planes...

1. Ike enforced school desegregation and warned of the military/industrial complex
We really were a great nation once.

Love the Stevenson quote, btw. Might as well be true.

3. I Have Had Arguments On This Board About Ike
Many historians rank him in the top ten of presidents and I believe deservedly so...

He also created the interstate highway system...

But the Stevenson quote is instructive...

This electionis a battle between issues and narratives and faux narratives at that...If Bush* was on the ballot this would be no contest because he is defined and his incompetence is incontrovertible but he isn't...

2. I'd rather have him seem tough and feisty.
This is turning into 1988 all over again.

SIGH.

5. Except Bush Pere Was Running For Reagan's Third Term And His Popularity Was In the 50s...
But you are correct... The Republicants are intent on Dukasizing him as they did to Gore and Kerry...
Hopefully, they won't be sucessful...

8. It's 1992, geek
And we'll be riding this horseshit economy all the way to the White House.

9. Well, Barack is half Bill Clinton and half Michael Dukakis.
We'll see if the charisma or the high-road mentality are more outcome-determinative.

4. I think the Stevenson response was
"Unfortunately, Ma'am, I need a majority."

Except comparing Ike with McCain is a great argument against evolution...

7. "Obama" on the Greatest Page!
As opposed to she who must not be named.
