"If a Republican is elected you will end up living in a cardboard box under a bridge."
Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 11:09 AM by Kurt_and_Hunter
There is little point in the Dem ticket or top surrogates leveling individual attacks on the opposing candidates or even their specific policies.

The most effective political attacks involve characterizing the other guy's policies in extreme (and even exaggerated) terms.

Saying that Obama voted to de-fund our troops in the field, or voted for "defeat," or will raise taxes on the middle class are lies as big as saying he's a muslim, but are considered acceptable political parlance.

The way you attack is to frame the results of the other guy's policies in shocking, scary terms. Since it is opinion and prediction, rather than fact, it is considered acceptable.

And the economy is the only issue.

No matter what the pugs throw up, the message every day (from the campaign itself) should be one of fomenting extreme FEAR of McCain/Palin in terms of what they will mean for your family finances.

And since "Republican" polls twenty points lower than "McCain" he should ALWAYS be referred to as a Republican. Stick the 'post-partisan' bullshit in a box for another election when Dems aren't out-polling pugs by giant margins.

5. That's VERY true, but it might not be as convincing to some of these people.
Especially the Troglodyte contingent with its "USA! USA! USA!" chanting to drown out dissenters.

A lot of these people are quite proud of their ignorance, and think WE are the bad ones. They've called our smarter ones "pointy-headed liberals" and worse. They hate brains - probably deep down because you hate in others that which you most dislike in yourself - and guess what they are? Frickin' STOOOpid and ignorant and gullible and easily manipulated and easily led. When the population is dumbed down, it's more easily played. Besides, brains are hard work. You have to spend some time reading, fact-finding, educating yourself. And that's too big a hassle when you've gotta watch "American Idol" and "Dancing with the Stars" and all your nice soap operas and "Judge Judys".

8. No, that demonizes him personally. "If McCain is elected small children will starve."
The point is, it is not required that someone dislike McCain personally or believe that he desires terrible things.

Only that his election will inevitably lead to economic calamity.

If the Republicans successfully put John McCain into the White House, children will starve.

I'll live my life and go on as best I can, I'll stay involved locally and ignore what the crazy people are doing because we're fighting on too many levels. Frankly, I'm tired and ready to turn off the TV and the blogs. If Americans are crazy enough to put Senator McCain in office - well, I give up... It'll be up to the kids to fix it.

33. This really can be an effective commercial.
It's not hard to find families who have lost their house and are now homeless. A simple, short interview with one of these families, preferably living somewhere like Ohio, would be very effective. And it's completely true.

46. Hey Chief,
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 10:11 PM by Liberalatus
Maybe if you took the time to do some actual research, instead of just swallowing all the BS from wherever you are getting your information, you would know what Liberals actually believe. You might even find out, like I did, that most people actually have more Liberal values and beliefs than Conservative. See, I was raised hardcore Conservative. And I used to believe and parrot all the things you and the rest of the Repubs do now. It wasn't until I started arguing and debating INTELLECTUALLY with Liberals, instead of twisting words, framing bad arguments, and demonizing the opposition, that I realized that most people are Liberal, including myself.

Neither Liberals or Conservatives are the TRUE Patriots, and having the opposite viewpoint doesn't make you evil. That is one thing I could not ever stand about my Conservative upbringing. No one wanted to debate actual policies. All they wanted to do was demonize the other person, smear them, or turn the debate into something it wasn't, like "family values" or "morals" or "patriotism". Same thing goes for you. You can make the choice to just spout out bad arguments that make no sense, and that aren't based on facts. You can continue the bad politics that is tearing OUR, Liberals' and Conservatives', Nation apart. Here's the bottom line. You have to choose between the approval of your buddies in your party, or you can choose what is best for America. These types of ignorant slurs are the major problem with this nation, and if you care at all about our Beloved Country, if you truly want God to bless America, then stop tearing it apart.

..and quit with that "the middle class is suffering" crap. EVERYONE is getting screwed by Bushonomics.

It looks like McFailin are getting pushed back on the defensive, but Democrats need to keep hammering and draw the clear distinction between 4 more years of McBush and real, honest to goodness change.
