4. Easy
If it's a positive story about Palin, that's good for them, because it's positive.
If it's a negative story about Palin, that's good for them, because it's the evil liberal New York Times.

See how it works? Whatever happens, it's always good for them.

;-)

7. Wrong
If it's positive for Palin, it's still on a negative subject in a reputable paper - the NY Times. And it'll be widely read both in print and online... Drudge, other sources, including tabloids which reach more people than the news does. That's negative for them no matter what - having voters reminded of it.

If it's negative for Palin, they're screwn with their base. And everybody else (except racists and operatives).

11. Hmmmm. Explain to me again how the recent lobbyist /too friendly relations story
involving McCain in the NYT hurt McCain. I seem to recall after his bogus denial nothing further was pursued. I truly doubt a story in the NYT will EVER hurt a Republican.

21. Thanks !!! My name meant a lot back when it was chosen. I was totally
convinced in Nov 2004 that the "selection" would never stand. We all lived through weeks and weeks where
we we 100% certain the election would be overturned. And Laura really would have to pack her bags and
move out. One of many in a string of dissappointments. That's why I bristle when people say, "Oh,
don't worry - Obama's got it figured out - he'll win, no worried." I am so tired of being dissappointed.
If he doesn't pull this out - I swear I will give up on politics forever.

8. That's... weird.
Or maybe not. Could be a story about Down Syndrome. How the numbers of Downs babies have dropped precipitously in the last few years, the dilemma of having to decide to abort or not, etc.

and what it is like to raise a downs baby.

So far no suggestion that it is a negative story.

Most likely is it to belay the rumors.

14. Bobby Kennedy said a Down baby is very vulnerable - more so than an
ordinary fetus if there is any maternal distress such as if the water bag is broken.

The mom-to-be must get to the nearest hospital asap - not travel 7 hours to a rural health clinic.

10. I smell a preemptive rat.
If I were to take a wild guess, I'd say that they're arming Barbie with the following talking point:

"What do you mean I don't do interviews? Didn't you see that up-close-and personal item on the front page of the New York Times?"

Remember Duers, the New York Times is the paper that knowingly withheld information about the Chimp's illegal spying on Americans (in order to rig the 2004 presidential election).

28. Well, for starters, Cheney didn't want Rumsfeld replaced, and the Generals were against the surge.
The US has been spying on Mala ki, the prime minister of Iraq.
The US has been targeting the head people of Al Queda using a super sophisticated spy technology that Woodward said was as big of a leap as the development of the tank in WWI.
And that General Petraus was put in as Commander of Central Command so that he would resist pulling the troops out of Iraq, no matter who was the next President. Petraus doesn't believe in removing the troops and the Bush administration "breathed a sigh of relief" after Petraus was put in at Central Command because his position there is "fire-proof", he can't be canned.

I think those were the big ones.

18. read the People article on her. She didn't even tell her kids
she was having a Down's kid. WTF is up with that? She didn't want to tell them the bad news. Doesn't being Gov or being VP involve a certain amount of bad news? That's a leader? My ass.

19. Here's the scoop
The story will be about how Palin will bring "change" to the campaign trail by having voters kiss her baby instead of her kissing voters' babies.

It's bullshit. For one, she never had an obstetrician, as the article insists. Trig was delivered by her family physician. Still it does at least mention the asinine decision to fly back to AK.

30. Not exactly a puff piece.
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 02:05 AM by merh
The caption under the photo:

Gov. Sarah Palin and her family at the Republican convention. She went to extraordinary lengths to ensure that her son Trig’s arrival would not hurt her work.

That's negative - would not hurt her work? How about her work wouldn't hurt her child.

And this admission/explanation:

Most had learned that Ms. Palin was pregnant only a few weeks before. Struggling to accept that her child would be born with Down syndrome and fearful of public criticism of a governor’s pregnancy, Ms. Palin had concealed the news that she was expecting even from her parents and children until her third trimester.

That does not reflect super gov mom in a very good light.

Or this:

Before her son was born, Ms. Palin went to extraordinary lengths to ensure that his arrival would not compromise her work. She hid the pregnancy. She traveled to Texas a month before her due date to give an important speech, delivering it even though her amniotic fluid was leaking. Three days after giving birth, she returned to work.

A cynic could read that as a way for her to do what she could to miscarry.

27. Lost 'em a long time ago.
Stupid pieces about Gore wearing earth tones and other such bullshit clear back in 2000. So-called "news" pieces about the 2000 campaign that contained a hell of a lot of editorializing.

Sorry if you thought that the NYT wasn't part of the Corporate Propaganda Ministry.

The US is way, way far down on the list when it comes to ranking countries re the existence of press freedom.

We are screwn.

29. It's on the front page though, and that is what we want to focus on at this time- her inexperience.
Everyone said she was "the new rising star" for the GOP, so we'll see how far that meme gets before it falls to earth.
