St. Pete Times: Ex-Republican senator stumps for Obama now
This, I find newsworthy. I didn't know Chafee was out recruiting Republicans for Obama.

ST. PETERSBURG — The former Republican senator stood before a sign that read, "Republicans for Obama," with a red elephant blending into the blue "O" of the Democrat's campaign logo.

Lincoln Chafee wanted to convince the audience that they should vote for the senator from Illinois. It didn't take much.

About 25 people nodded and laughed with Chafee at the Fossil Park North Branch Library, one of the stops on his Florida tour to win over Republicans and independents.

<snip>
Louis Kwall, a Clearwater lawyer and Republican who supports Obama, agreed. He said McCain's vice presidential choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a Christian conservative, was evidence that he will continue the ideological partisanship of Bush.

<snip>
"I think this election is going to be different," said Kwall, who was head of the Pinellas County Republican executive committee in 1992 and 1993. "They realize the stakes."

If we can turn out all Democrats for Obama, we can win.
If we can turn out most Democrats and some Independents for Obama, we can win.
If we can turn out a majority of Democrats, some Independents and some Republicans for Obama, we can win.

Tomorrow is Monday - pledge to yourself that you will do one thing for the Obama campaign in your neighborhood this week. And do it. Do that every week for the next nine weeks, and we win.

3. Thanks for the positive post.
It helps for people to see all the positive things happening so they don't dwell on the inevitable static that there's gonna be in any campaign.

5. When I hang up the phone I say "Obama" instead of good bye.
I got a wrong number call today. I used it. Who knows. Maybe that changed a mind.

9. As a former Rhode Islander I can say that Lincoln Chafee is highly respected in
the bluest state in the country. He was always Republican pretty much as a birthright - his father was a Republican governor of the state and Senator who was truly revered. I always hoped that Lincoln would swap parties in the Senate, but he didn't. He lost his re-election bid to Sheldon Whitehouse, Democrat. Very gut-wrenching for Rhode Islanders to vote out Chafee whom most liked and had high approval ratings, but they sucked it up in order to put in a Dem majority.

Much as I liked Chafee, I think we traded up with Whitehouse who is just a blazing intellect and very fierce.
