The Proper Time For Panic Is...
When this graph from electoral-vote.com:


The graph above shows the electoral votes again but omits the "barely" states. The electoral votes of a state only count in this graph if the candidate has a margin of 5% or more over his opponent.


Looks like The Same Graph From 2004


That is all.

I was just wondering how our electoral map matched the map from 04. I hope that electorally speaking we can keep a solid lead? I think we'll know more by mid week as EV.com has some older polls, but as you note, it's a different election. I appears as though Obama's support has been pretty stable?

...I think you're likely to start seeing an Obama drop, and McCain rise, in that graph as well.

It's just that the convention bounce will start being reflected in state-by-state polls within the next few days.

Where the graph is after that bounce ends is the crucial point.

I'd say the time to panic is if McCain is ahead by more than a few EVs, or over 270, after the first debate. Not before.

10. I haven't been particularly worried until I saw a DailyKos diary about
potentially millions of voter registrations being thrown out, in several crucial states.

They are up to their old tricks, but apparently on a ramped-up scale from that of 2004. I am sure the Obama campaign knows about it, but will their response to it be effective? That is the question.
