About McCain mentioning Palin's experience as a PTA member as administrative experience to be VP....I think that's solid evidence of just how thin her resume is.
I'm not dissing PTA at all. In fact, I'm on the executive board at my daughter's school and sit on the board for the council of district PTAs. Our school district has more than 25 elementary schools, seven middle schools and five high schools. There are more than 23,000 students K-12 in our district. That's nearly five times the population of the town she was mayor of when she was mayor.
But honestly, I wouldn't include it in my executive experience if I were on a national ticket. As the secretary of the PTA, I take notes, then email them to people and hand out copies at the next meeting. At the board for the council of PTAs, it's mostly just important that I show up as a representative for our middle school. I listen to people talk. I sometimes give input on votes. And I vote on things.
I've had far more demanding experiences organizing state and local campaigns for school board, city council and state representative. Being an election judge was more demanding. Being a precinct chair was more demanding. Completing my master's degree was FAR more demanding.
And the woman apparently was a member for two years. Not an officer, a member. Cough up three bucks and you're a member. You don't even HAVE to attend any meetings. All you have to do is pay the membership dues and you're good for the whole year. So....six bucks. She paid six bucks (roughly, the dues vary from place to place a bit, but they're never very much) over the course of two years and calls that executive experience. Hell, if that's the case, apparently I'm qualified to be PRESIDENT! I even have more education than she does!
It's really sort of embarrassing how obvious this pandering was....pandering both to the freaky fundy right and to women (and that part is apparently not working, from what I can tell). I knew he made a horrible choice, but when I heard him twice cite her PTA membership as evidence of her executive experience, that nailed it. There's no "executive experience" involved with being a PTA member.
(PSA: It's a GOOD THING to be a PTA member, so everyone join your child's school's PTA! :) But it doesn't mean you can be VP! LOL.)
