What is WRONG with this country? USA/Gallup 9/7: McCain 55 Obama 44

Up 11 among likely voters. Electoral vote.com still has Obama up 301 to 250 something, but that's probably going to tighten. WTF is wrong with this country? It just gets frustrating...

If you look at the Gallup/Ras/Zogby tracking, McCain has slowly closed the gap since Obama's trip to Europe.

The convention gave us a slight bounce.

Now it looks gone.

Time to get back on the offensive. Call your friends in the media, and continue to give them stories on McCain and especially Palin.

And according to overnight crunch polling, it has already melted to +1. A pure dead cat bounce.

Obama will be ahead again by next week when the voters realize what a nazi McCain chose as VP.

McCain is getting a bounce that perhaps a candidate has not gotten in a very long time.

Good strategy on Obama's part to hold back their attacks on Palin and allow McCain and FOX News define her.

McCain is running what is probably the most blatantly disingenuous campaign in American history, and people seem to be falling for it.

So if anyone thinks that Obama should stay the course and keep up his strategy of allowing McCain and Palin define him and lie, then we are doomed....it does not take a political expert to figure that out.

I trust this candidate to do what he's going to do when he does it. I'm not conceited enough to assume I know what that is better than he does.

Does SUSA have a national poll? I've read they were the most accurate state by state. But who knows? Zogby was pretty accurate in 2000, but has been complete shit since.

It's 50-46 among RV (pretty much in line with convention bounces), 54-44 using their deeply-flawed LV model (which has been about ten points further toward the Republicans in the past). No way is it "55-44" by any standard.

The DNC gave Obama a nine point bounce and McCain got a 10-11 point one. Both flatlined. "Likelys" always firm up with a con bounce.

The fact is the electoral college still shows us in a good position. The national poll counts for nothing. Gore was ahead in national polls for the 2000 election and looked what happened there.

This is all part of the plan to convince you that we will have an election that represents the views of the people that vote so that you;
1) won't be mad when Mc Same is selected as president and
2)So that you will be disheartened by the news and blame it on the candidate and;
3) Get your check book out for the race in 2012.

They plan to steak this election and make you like it.

I really can't remember much about them. But weren't they all done by these same groups of pollsters when Obama and Clinton were battling it out?

Was Obama always ahead? I would doubt, and I would doubt that he was ever ahead nationally by 8 or 10 points over Hillary. But he is the nominee. If that is right, then these polls don't mean squat necessarily, right?

I do remember the delegate vote guesses were more accurate, showed Obama making progress, and then he did win. Is that more akin to the electoral college vote guesses they are making now (which are also in Obama's favor)? Or does anyone have a different (read more accurate) memory on this?

Conventions result in bounces, and they often play out for several weeks after the show. Weeks. Expecting McCain's bounce to have dropped off already is probably unrealistic (but who knows with the way this election cycle is playing out.) Obama's bounce was overshadowed by Palin and the 'Puke Convention so clearly the GOP will be getting more out of theirs. It'll tighten back up.

And don't blame the country -- it's the same country that gave the Big Dawg two terms and has had Obama polling with a lead for quite a while. It's a damn good country full of lots of hard-working, committed folks just like you and I, dammit. If you choose to diss them and call them "idiots" don't be surprised if they turn on you.

Things will pick back up. I opened the window and checked -- the sky hasn't fallen at all.

Still, I'm surprised McCain is up by that margin. I expected a flat footed tie, then for Obama to naturally recoil to small advantage in a week or two.

It will be interesting to see what other polls report. Why have we been bombarded with Gallup and little else?

Obama is the favorite but naturally it's going to be close in an open race. I wanted Mark Warner, who could have exploded the electoral possibilities. Once we narrowed it to a woman or a black man, it was guaranteed to be tight, particularly when our nominee is considered liberal and their nominee can feign moderate.

It's still a 21% liberal, 33% conservative nation. Always keep that in mid when you're baffled our candidate does not lead decisively.

when he tanks he can't say the media was biased. The media can say Oh McCain was so far ahead, but all the scandals of his running mate took him down.
