14. Truly. I put together a short video of her in her church with a wacky preacher.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8twqZpUT2NQ

Talking about how Alaska is a "refuge state" and using a trailer from one of their very own church events that shows what appears to be missiles going all over the world and exploding... it's just scary stuff.

2. These people are sick and...
under no circumstances belong on the levers of power. They are not only a threat to our form of constitutional government but to the entire world as well. The war of cultures will take place here and not in the middle east because these groups have been allowed to fester, have been given concessions for far too long. They aren't going away any time soon.

4. I can aaaaalmost overlook some of the craziness
And even without what I'm going to talk about next, that's almost. They're just way too wacko.

But the part that pisses me off is the whole faith-healing thing - claiming people got new knees, raised from the dead, new teeth. That is just so much bullshit, and there have been so many accounts of scumbuckets from Oral Roberts to Benny Hinn doing everything from crappy magic tricks to outright deception, playing on people's honestly-held faith, that I feel they're some of the worst people in the world. The truly sick - the ones who are never brought up on stage - are left broken-hearted, and the ones who get "healed" are fooled, made to believe they're better by being swept up in the moment (endorphins), etc. I can guarantee that the whole "new gold teeth" bit of the healing is they're showing people their own fillings, which due to how dentistry works, are in the shapes of crosses, and claiming God put that there instead of the local dentist.

Sounds like a recipe for a forced armageddon, if you ask me. Weirdo fundie rapture-seeking freaks.

9. Speaking in tongues reminds me of chanting as a spiritual exercise
That makes me more sympathetic to it, though Christians who disapprove of the practice compare it to "pagan" practices. The problem is that it doesn't stop there. If it was just another subculture doing its own thing, it wouldn't be a problem. It is appallingly scary to think that a full-fledged initiate in that subculture could possibly be anywhere near the nuclear football.

10. Why this is much scarier than Bush
Bush has done a great job of being a fake member of the wingnut contingent of US religion, but they are not his base. He always (correctly) says that his base is the "haves and have mores," and our economic elite wants the wingnuts nowhere near real power centers, however happy they are to have their votes. Palin is actually the real thing.

13. Hey, NEGuyWil!
Welcome to DU! :hi:

I dunno. I see what you are saying, given the way religion has been melded with politics lately, but the fact remains that some churches are whacko, and this looks like one of them.

18. Yes I do
Especially after the way they kept playing Rev Wright over and over. Of course I haven't heard one peep from the MSM about Palin's scarey church.
