Post convention poll bounce ~ a bit of historical context.
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 12:55 AM by mzmolly
In 2000 both Gore and Bush got an 8 point bump post convention. In 1984, Mondale got a 9 point bump, in 1980 Carter got 10 points out of his convention and so on.

See > GALLUP.COM

The fact that McCain got a bump after his convention is not unusual.

"Tom" at http://www.pollster.com/blogs/us_mccain_54_obama_44_usatoday.php">Pollster.com has some interesting notes about the Gallup poll.

"It should be noted that the RV number is McCain 50%/Obama 46%. Gallup's likely voter screen tends to filter out minorities and the youth vote. both which strongly benefit Obama this time around. Plus, the article mentioned that the poll represents McCain's full convention bounce. Look for the race to settle down by the end of the week, with the next big known event-changer coming up being the debates."

Chill............. ;)

1. Thank you
the hysteria over these polls is out of control. Stop crying and do your part. Donate, call voters, whatever. You'll help the campaign and feel better at the same time.

4. I'm a hand-wringer, but not because the damn polls,
but because of the goddamn right-wing media who is out to determine who will win the election. Fair reporting = Obama landslide.

5. that's my fear as well - if the votes were going to be counted
fairly, and the media was objective - not right-wing zealots, i would be more comfortable.

as it is, a script is being played, the media hides repug criminal acts and makes things up about Democrats. Processes are being put in place to steal or suppress votes in crucial districts. It will take a miracle for us to win. Winning will sweep away much of the repug rot and then there will be some hope.
