I am not afraid of them.
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 01:51 AM by smartvoter
I haven't been as active as I used to be at DU as of late because for every minute I spend posting here, I could be posting someplace where there is a chance to change someone's mind (or to keep it from being changed the wrong way), or just to counter spin with facts (we always have the facts on our side and I will go to my grave believing that ultimately, they'll win out). This was my decision after looking back at times when we were actively fighting for candidates or issues and observing that maybe some of the time I put in here would have made a difference somewhere else, so I decided to focus my efforts toward the public at large this cycle. That said, I still stop in regularly and donate to DU and quietly participate in fundraisers and things of that sort. This place usually picks me up and gives me fire when I am feeling like maybe I'm wasting my time or am getting tired or am frustrated by the other side and its seemingly endless shenanigans.

The latest GOP talking point is that Democrats are afraid of Sarah Palin. Normally, I would laugh at such an assertion but today DU is nearly unrecognizable. We're the ones who fought and pressed on when the common wisdom was that the GOP had developed a "durable majority." We fought against election fraud and intolerance and dishonesty and inequality and bigotry and... and... and... and... AND... AND... AND... And we did this when the media was against us and many of our fellow citizens were cowed into allowing things to happen that many previously thought would never happen in our country.

After all we have fought for, are we now supposed to give in and cower over a gimmicky appointment and surge in the polls following their big week of bullshit? Surrender to a guy who is trying to pull off the coup of our lifetimes by dropping one of the most backward governors in the country onto his ticket as he spins her bio to us while simultaneously sending teams to her home state to quash investigations into potential corruption and abuse of power? A guy who doesn't know how many houses he owns? A guy who we all watched with our own eyes as he sold out to extremists in his party after they showed him they can keep him from the oval office if he doesn't do their bidding? A guy who would be the oldest starting president in our history but selected a VP candidate who the majority of America recognizes is grossly underqualified to take over if something happens to him? A guy who publicly called the teenage daughter of a political rival ugly? A guy who calls his wife a c**t? A guy whose opinion of women is so low that he thinks he can capture the votes of women just because he puts a candidate with a vagina on the ticket?

FUH-HUH-HUH-HUCK THAT

I made a pact with myself tonight. I will not dwell on whether Obama should have picked Hillary. He didn’t and it’s over. I will not stew about our team having acted honorably while theirs slung mud during the conventions. Frankly, I’m proud that we are not doing to their hero the things they did to ours in 2004. He is an American and he fought for us. I will not let some stupid-assed poll that happens right after their convention and two full months before the election ruin my spirits. This was never going to be a cakewalk. And I am not going to play the game of pitting their unkown, untested, unvetted and grossly underqualified #2 candidate against our #1.

They are so broken they don't even know how to be honest. They're trying to get away with more of the same shit that already has cost them the House and Senate and destroyed their party brand. And it will catch up with them just like it always does.

I am not afraid of them. And while I am not one of the dominant participants at DU I know enough people here to be certain that I am far from being alone in this. We shouldn't let chickenshit sentiments or kneejerk reactions dominate our conversation. So, please, if you feel the same way, post something out here and let's get some decent content on the boards. We have some threads that need to be driven into the archives.

Yes, sometimes it seems toxic here at times and I remember when I came here to assure myself of my sanity. :hi:

6. I have total confidence in Obama & Biden to close this deal.
And your post is totally right. I've been soaking up information here for a while now, but I too, decided today to spend time until the election on a Baptist board I just got invited to, and for the same reason. Also plan to email the media a lot, as I did tonight.

It's all ground game now, and good thoughts to the team for the debates, which should be interesting. Mostly I just hope for reality to reveal itself to voters, through anything at all, because the facts are all on our side.

Sometimes I even wonder if the Repubs are secretly planning to throw this election to us, maybe even in a big way, because they really don't want to be bothered with the mess.

Then too... if McCain loses, the "Wall Street Republicans" can take back control of their party from the Theocrats next time. Could be, that's what they want to do? Who knows, just a thought.

All I'm saying is, some of those Repubs might have a different agenda than we expect. Sometimes, losing is winning.

9. Well, they sure seem to want to control those court appointments,
so I think that's what's keeping them in the fight. My personal view is the Palin thing was them taking a big roll of the dice because they were getting absolutely nowhere. And I think that they just like power.

How are your efforts working out on the Baptist board?

7. Wise words, smartvoter. Your last paragraph sums it up nicely.
It's such a pain in the ass having to wade through dozens of "chickenshit sentiments" and "kneejerk reactions". Some are clearly flame bait. Many are genuinely sincere and passionate; some are funny as hell, but too many are just shooting from the hip. I try not to get too upset because as a young adult many (many) years ago, I might have reacted similarly. I don't know.
