1. I can't wait to see her on her OWN set.. I'm so excited for her.. She has been
consistently getting better and is so much sweeter at handing Bush and Friends their ass. Don't get me wrong, I like KO's show, but Rachel just does it in her own way... Nice pairing to watch back to back.

I get the feeling you're not talking about on Air America. Is she going to be on MSNBC? I don't always get to the TV in the evening.

19. I absolutely love Maddow but will not watch this.
I won't watch any more MSNBC unless they put Olbermann back on as live anchor. The two incidents do not exist in a vacuum separate from each other. I'll get my Maddow fix from Air America and work to sink all the MSNBC ratings (and even Rachel's star rising) I helped to create by being their loyal Olbermann viewer. I won't be watching Olbermann's show, either, not even on You Tube clips b/c networks can see how many times something's been viewed as easily as we can. This kills me to do, but if they're willing to take their biggest star off live coverage, they'll only "hear" our displeasure if their ratings fall exponentially.

25. Oh come on !! Don't hurt Rachel and Keith just because of the dumb Gregory thing.
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 01:55 PM by Overseas
Just call/contact MSNBC and let them know they've lost your viewership during the debates by putting Gregory in charge of debate coverage.

Don't hurt the two good guys because you hate the Republican owned corporation that made an idiotic move and put one of its pro-Republican anchors on instead.

26. But what does MSNBC care about losing my viewship in the debates?
It's only a few dates, it won't make any impact whatsoever on their bottom line. But a consistent loss of ratings--particularly of their highest rated show(s)--will affect who advertises with them and how much advertisers are willing to pay to advertise on a show with failing ratings. I love both Olbermann and Maddow dearly, but I hate CM media being controlled by the RW junta more.

27. I just don't want people to hurt the two good shows. Not watching will allow right wing management
to decide that Keith and Rachel don't really have that solid a fan base. The conservatives at MSNBC can win by making up other reasons that the viewership of those shows has softened.

I have so little palatable TV news viewing left, I really don't want to endanger it.

32. MSNBC is already censoring them,
they won't stop censoring them if we roll over and take it, it will just get worse. Even Keith has admitted to having been pressured in the past. Quite honestly, both Olbermann and Maddow are gifted, seasoned newspeople. They won't disappear entirely, they'll just find another avenue to put forth their opinions (like Maddow already has with Air America). Under a fascist government where corporations rule, the only way to fight them is to hit their bottom line. The right has done this very effectively for decades now, I don't understand how the left doesn't get it.

33. If you boycott, you will be joining right wingers who hate MSNBC because of Keith.
The right wing calls for boycotts of MSNBC because they carry the damn liberal Keith. Your boycott will just join in the ongoing right wing effort to depose Keith.

Keith and Rachel will not find it easy to secure other work on television now that media ownership has been consolidated into Republican hands.

Just write MSNBC to let them know you preferred Keith and Chris for the election coverage and won't be watching David Gregory. Simple and accurate.

They may also have redesigned the anchoring because Keith and Chris were competing for air time and their personality clashes were uncomfortable at times. When Gregory loses ratings, they may bring Chris or Keith back.

34. If the left lets MSNBC know why they're boycotting,
then we're not "joining the right." Obviously MSNBC is caving to the right's boycott, but if they lose their remaining base viewers, then they'll understand what viewer base they have to kow-tow to. Just my opinion, but you won't sway me. I gave up all other networks years ago and only watched Olbermann on MSNBC. Now they won't even get that from me, and their corporate advertisers lose the chance to dazzle another consumer with their product propaganda.

36. I will continue to support the couple of good shows at MSNBC.
You go ahead and join the right and protest the whole channel. Go ahead and write your letter making sure they can tell you and the others are protesting to support Keith and Chris, not joining the RNC campaigns to protest against Keith.

Me? I'll continue supporting Keith and Rachel because I don't want to lose them.

I hope you will save your protest for something far more important. This wasn't a big bad censorship move. We know Obama and Biden will win their debates. MSNBC is just switching gasbags to anchor the debates. Not dropping Keith from the channel.

But I'm not trying to convince you not to watch. As a progressive, I give you full credit for being a grown up and being able to make your own decisions. I'm just explaining my choice. :hi:

But thank you for making my point about how the RW controls the CM to the extent that most people don't even know Kerry won the election, and is therefore worth boycotting.

30. You aren't alone - when I said I would be turning off MSNBC, I meant all of it
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 02:28 PM by DeschutesRiver
I am going to miss Rachel's debut, but ya know what?

I have lost other voices this year that I enjoyed, like Tim Russert. Boy, one of our most historic elections, and without that guy's booming enthusiasm for the process. Another thing is that I am older now, and I like familiar faces, to the point that I actually don't mind Larry King/CNN now. He used to drive me nutso, but both dh and I were commenting that for whatever reason, we like seeing his familiar faces now. Shocked us both to say that, but there you go. Besides, if Rachel keeps telling it like it is and being a spitfire, soon her freedom of speech and thought will be damped down at some point as well, and that would infuriate me as much as this does. So no point going down that path again.

So Tim is gone, and yeah, I expected to see Chris and Keith doing the election - and nope, I don't always agree with them at all. But I am not taking the bland guy Gregory - I already lose interest and turn him off now. MSNBC won't likely miss my viewership either, but I don't care. Between C-SPAN and all of the most excellent resouces on the net, there really wasn't any point to watching the vapid MSM, other than listening to one's favorite personalities go at it, or at times, at each other. You take that away, and why bother watching?

It is actually far better for me to be watching C-SPAN and using my own brain to reach conclusions, instead of being lazy and letting these commentators direct the traffic flow of my mind. I can do CNN for the basics.
