Mika: "She brings so much more to the table because of those children."
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 07:14 AM by EffieBlack
Funny, Mika - I don't recall you EVER claiming that Hillary Clinton was a better candidate or would be a better president because of Chelsea. Or is that the more children a woman has, the better qualified she is to be president or vice president and Hillary just didn't make the cut?

Oh,and by the way - although you and your cohorts in the media keep blathering about how "some on the left question" whether someone with Palin's responsibilities should be running for vice president (yet you never seem to mention who those "some" are), no one in Obama's campaign, none of his surrogates and no one from the Democratic Party has raised any such question. Notwithstanding this, you continue to throw up this red herring as an excuse to canonize Palin, the poor woman-mother victim who is being picked on by mean old Obama.

Funny thing, though. Despite the fact that some of the most snide, vicious and damaging racist innuendo and outright slurs have been thrown around about Barack Obama for months, you have steadfastly refuse to discuss them - unless it is to attack Obama and his supporters for "playing the race card" whenever someone has the temerity to suggest that this is being done.

Why is it that you are SO comfortable talking about sexism - even when it doesn't exist (since, despite your obsession with it, every criticism of Palin is NOT sexist) - but you month after month after month refuse to even acknowledge the role that racism is playing in this campaign?

I think I know the reason. But I'd like to at least hear YOUR explanation.

5. It's not that she's running for VP
Or even that she's a woman balancing a family and a career. It's that she's doing such a piss poor job of it on a national - no, strike that - international stage.

ANY parent - mother or father - who doesn't prepare their children for the arrival of a special needs infant, flies after her water has broken, and then springs a "surprise" on her unwed teenage daughter that she's not in Ohio to celebrate an anniversary, but to step into a spotlight as the child of the VP candidate is a terrible, selfish, uncaring fucking parent.

9. Mika has totally lost it. She was bug-eyed irrational this morning....
... misinterpreting the WSJ (Shipman) article as saying "all women" were of a certain opinion. M-Brez was bad enough playing Colmes to Scabby's Hannity, but she's really become myopic since the Palin selection.

Possibly the most ironic was their negatively criticizing the media for talking about Palin's family and motherhood by spending huge portions of their program talking about just those things. I watched for 40 minutes and they never got around to discussing ANY aspect of Palin's professional qualifications.

And that includes Harold Ford, a supposed Democrat.

13. Re: your OP's subject line ... the "brings to the table" quote
That's another thing that cracked me up (because otherwise I'd cry).

Why is it, exactly, that Palin brings so much more to the table because of her children? More than who, Obama? Does Obama's being a father diminish his understanding of what parents face? Are fathers lesser parents? Talk about sexist.

24. Yep, exactly. AND if we are to go down that road, is she saying that...
...dads are less involved than moms and can afford to spend less time with them? Logically, doesn't that lead one to believe a mom WOULDN'T have as much time to devote herself to her job... thereby negating every fucking thing she said previously?

The logic astounds me. I want to vomit and cry, at the same time.

19. True, in the abstract
Palin's children, however, seem to be the objects of her misguided politics and values. Suddenly, the contingencies that many families deal with (and that are criticized by the right) have been turned into a political virtue in what could only be detrimental to reducing pregnancy rates among teens. Efforts to deal with teen pregnancy are effectively gutted because, in her and the McCain campaign's words, they should be celebrated for choosing marriage after the fact. Will Bristol's choosing "life" bring down abortion rates? Some pro-life Catholics doubt it.

Their corporate bosses are cracking down on them, forcing them to shill for the GOP (not that some of them *cough*Gregory*cough* need to be shilled). All because little Johnny McCain complained that they were being mean to him (i.e. acting like real journalists).

It's time to send them the message that we don't need a second FoxNews and stop watching.
