Guess who said: "Obama brings so much more to the table because of his race?"
No one - because unlike Mika "she brings so much more to the table because of those children" and others who think it's perfectly acceptable to discuss 24/7 how Palin's gender and parental status make her a compelling candidate, any journalist or pundit who tried to argue that Obama's race also brings some unique and favorable qualities to the campaign would be drummed out of the studio.

1. But exposing this hypocrisy by the corporate media and others is sexist.
:sarcasm:

4. It's a freaking stupid statement by Mika
What does it even mean? All of the candidates have children.

I think Mika is still in that "I'm a new Mommy so that makes me awesome!" stage. She's got that "Oh look! Another Mommy!" thing going on.

Ultimately, it's a pretty damned sexist attitude.

5. There is an acceptable prejudice in this country when it comes to women who are mothers.
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 07:47 AM by TexasObserver
When men work and are parents, it's called life as usual.

How does HE juggle being a parent and a full time worker, too?
--- the question no one ever asks

There is a double standard in this country that favors women in matters such as this one. If a woman works and is a mother, it's considered an accomplishment. When a man does the same, it's considered nothing special.

When a talking head like Mika drones on about how being a mother makes her a better journalist, she's 100% full of shit.

7. It's mom adulation and it's one of those things that seems to have blown up...
... at least since I was a kid in the 80s. I noticed that TV commercials and shows started to have bumbling, foolish dads and wise, frugal moms tsk tsking the husband for being so stupid, after which she'd take on the world with a baby strapped in a Snugli. I guess they were trying to make up for the outright sexism of the prior years, mom stuck baking a pie in the kitchen and such, but come ON. A little balance would be nice, I guess, some equality! And certainly, as a purposely childfree woman, the mom adulation some just pour on makes me want to vomit. Certain people seem to think a woman's only real value is in being a mom and that moms are superhuman beings somehow. Well, I had a mom and she was quite ordinary and flawed, like many others. Motherhood isn't the be all and end all but tell Mika that and her tiny brain would probably explode. Too many people think with their uteri. Sorry for the rant, but this subject seriously pisses me off and if it costs us an election I will be absolutely LIVID.

8. I salute motherhood and fatherhood, but ...
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 09:15 AM by TexasObserver
... but I don't think being one makes a person exemplary, or good at what they do. A person can be a good parent and a complete idiot politically. I mean, look at Mika. She's an embarassment to women. She poses like some petulant 14 year old girl as part of her TV persona. Is this any way for a female role model to behave?

10. Yes, exactly my point.
Mika embarrasses me, as a woman and just as a person.

6. Great one. Note, also, that Palin proffered on her first day on the trail ...
... that her gender was a reason to vote for her, to finally break through that glass ceiling.

How many times has Obama said to vote for him to demonstrate racial equality in this country?

9. I think her children take away from her ability to perform her duties.
There, I said it. You can do it all, but you can't do it all at the same time without someone geting shortchanged. Todd looks like total white trash, they didn't keep an eye on their son who vandalized school buses, they didn't keep an eye on their daughter who got knocked up, and they haul that poor baby around like a sack of potatoes--no dependable routine (important for ALL babies), just treated like a show and tell object. These people are failing at parenthood, but they want a promotion. Sorry, fuck that shit.
