RAS TRACKING POLL: Obama 46, McCain 47 (+1). Could be worse.
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows John McCain with a statistically insignificant one-point lead over Barack Obama.

In the first national polling results based entirely on interviews conducted after the Republican National Convention, McCain attracts 47% of the vote while Obama earns 46%. When "leaners" are included, it’s McCain 48% and Obama 47%. Tracking Poll results are released at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time each day and a FREE daily e-mail update is available.

Last Tuesday, Obama’s bounce peaked with the Democrat enjoying a six-percentage point advantage. Before the two conventions were held, Obama had consistently held a one or two point lead over McCain for most of August (see recent daily results).

1. So let me get this straight.
We're at/near McCain's best polling for the ENTIRE year, and the best he can do is a point or two above Obama?

On Rasmussen..?

Really?

4. Yep, Dead Cat Bounce
It's all downhill for McCain from here.

Tomorrow, Friday's huge number for Mcain drops off the daily track.

2. K & R
The sky is NOT falling. Also consider that the media has just begun to take a good look at some of the lies that were told in those convention speeches.

6. point to beware:
Ras mentions Repug voter ID is up. That means increased enthusiasm, which could mean increased turnout. Ras scales all data by his estimated electorate composition. If the Repub party ID is higher than he estimates (at the beginning of each month) then he is underestimating McCain's numbers here.

Not saying that's true. But it's a point to consider.

7. These people who are freaking out need to chill out! I knew McGrumpter's bounce would be small
We need to see the next few days what happens but right after Obama's convention he had an almost 8 point bounce. McCain's is 1 to 4. This will evaporate in a few days especially with Hillary coming out to speak today.

8. the Monday after the Democratic convention they had a three
point lead for Obama even with all the Palin converage on Fri,Sat, and Sun. And by Tuesday it was a 6pts. with leaners. McCain has only managed a 1pt lead with barely anything to take the focus off his and Palin's speeches. Hopefully by Tuesday or Wednesday we will have seen all of whatever bounce McCain is going to get and this thing will settle down again.
