ABC News: Obama Personally Takes His Daughters Back to "Elite" School - Then Hits the Gym
:wtf:

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/09/obama-personall.html

ABC News' Sunlen Miller reports: Barack Obama dropped his two daughters off at school Monday -- in a motorcade complete with his secret service detail -- for their first day back to school in Chicago.

The Democratic nominee, dressed in work out clothes and a baseball hat, held the hands of his daughters, Malia, 10, and Sasha, seven, as they walked, toting backpacks, into the University of Chicago Laboratory School.

The elite charter school costs between $15,000 to $20,000 a year in tuition. Michelle Obama currently sits on the board.

Obama’s eldest daughter, Malia, is going into 5th grade, and his youngest is going into the 2nd grade. If Obama wins the White House, his daughters would be the youngest kids in the White House since President Jimmy Carter's daughter, Amy.

After dropping his kids off at school, Obama will hit the gym and then campaign in Michigan today.

7. 1. This is ABC and 2. Obama is a professor @ U of C and this is a school affiliated
with this institution. Why should this be called elitist? Did McCain's children attend public schools?

Shows bias in ABC reporting!

2. I don't think it is a charter school
It is a private school run by U of C. One of the top schools in the city.

6. As opposed to Palin.. dropping her daughter off for a prenatal exam
and then popping over to 'Mommy and me' exercise before heading to the office. Go figure.

8. Yeah, but, even if it's a private school..
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 09:46 AM by 1corona4u
these pinheads need to remember that the Obama's still pay state taxes, as we all do, for public schools. I see nothing wrong with having your kids in a private school, as many of my neigbors do it as well. I don't care how much they spend either. It just shows how much he cares about their safety, and their education.

9. As a University of Chicago alumna
I say good for the Obamas. The Lab School is a fabulous school for children. If I lived in Chicago, and could afford it, my 6 year old daughter would be going there. I hadn't known that Obama was a professor at UC - that makes me even prouder of my alma mater!

10. He is running against McSame
and the mainstream media. The Obama campaign is not taking on the press like they need too. If you haven't noticed over the past few days (since Palin announcement) the McCain people (Rove) have succeeded in beating them into submission. The press is like a battered spouse that is in deep need of therapy.

19. Taking on the press?
the press hasn't been beaten into submission, they are willing participants. Years after the media lied this country into war what do people expect? The television is relevant only if people make it so. And people here obviously make it so.

11. Is this suppose to be negative?

We are paying $1000 a month for our two-year old's part-time daycare/pre-school. We know we will be paying at least $12,000 for kindergarten. We live in an urban neighborhood in a school district with failing schools. Everybody in my neighborhood, which is racially and ethnically diverse, sends their kids to private schools. It is a bit frustrating because I live in the state with the highest property tax (so we also pay a lot in proerty tax!) in the US and also very good schools (but not so much in the urban areas). Sending kids to private schools if you live in a city is pretty common, not elite. We aren't rich or anything either - it is just part of living here.

And, the athletic club that I belong to is by my two-year old's "school." so there ...

This just seems silly to me.

12. My husband was a professor at a small university. They had a "lab school" just as U,.of Chicago.
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 10:47 AM by kittykitty
We did not have to pay tuition because my husband was faculty. People who did not work for the university did have to pay tuition.

This is most likely the case with Obama--if he is indeed still affiliated with University of Chicago.
Or because Michelle sits on the board, her kids probably attend tuition free.

Lab schools provide teacher training for students majoring in education.

Edited to provide more information.
