Why do Republicans like Palin?
For the same reason I like my cousin Jill. She's cute and has cute kids. She's a Democrat and loves to talk about things that are important to Democrats.

Does that mean I want Jill to be Vice-president? HELL NO. Why? Because she's a great person, and I like her, but she just ISN'T QUALIFIED.

Are Republicans really that stupid? To go ape-shit gaga over someone because THEY THINK she's "cute", has 5 kids and Conservative "family values"??

People, it's just that simple... We've got to slap them across the face and WAKE THEM UP TO THEIR WORLD OF STUPID.

19. You just nailed it.
They really don't like her. They just desperately want to have someone to pretend to like to make their shitty party seem to have some sense of unity. My stupid father had never heard of the woman, yet he vomited forth all of the great virtues of the woman a day after she was selected by Jabba the turd. Nothing but Limbaugh talking points. I wanted to punch him in the face. But it's not nice to hit an old, drug addicted, feeble man...

25. To an extent, I think, you are
right in one sense. Party line stuff. But here is the difference. I wasn't on board with Biden at first. The more I see of him and the more I have actually learned about him and his positions the more I am impressed by what I see. In fact, while there are areas where I don't like his positions, I find that I really identify with him. The same was true of Obama. I started with Kucinich and slowly nudged over. But hell, I would have voted for a rock if it had a D next to it to get rid of the Republicans. My 15 year old and my 25 year old loved Obama from the start. The more I have learned about Obama, the more I realize that they saw something there that I didn't see. Of course, I want him more on the left, but, seriously I am excited by this ticket.

The more I see of Obama/Biden, the more excited I become. The more I learn about them and see them as a team and watch the chemistry, the more I think this is the best possible team. I don't see the same thing happening with McCain/ Palin. There is an initial excitement, but, frankly, her extremist positions will anatagonize many Republicans. They will hold their noses and vote for the ticket, just like the far right will vote for her and not McCain. I don't think together they will grow on the party.

Because she's an OUTSIDER! She's not afraid to go after big business and corrupt, pork barrel spending! She can uh... (re-checks talking points) ...she can bring the CHANGE we need to Washington!

Also, what an awesome rack!

8. She's the male-dominated GOP's fantasy girl--she likes guns, and fishing, and
squeezing out babies, and killing things, and thinks the Second Coming is just around the corner, and she's pretty. Her record is an afterthought, her competence is not important, her integrity (which apparently she lacks) is right in line with the rest of the GOP.

The loonies and the Neocons have taken control of the Republican Party. Why else do you think people are leaving the party?

26. That is the truth
I was a republican conservative for 20 years. This is the first time in my life I am voting for a democrat and part of the reason I left my old party is because of how it has dramatically changed over the past two decades.

You know why they like Palin? Because they aren't allowed not to. Seriously. Go read some religious boards... Someone will say something along the lines of "I kind of like Obama on the heathcare issue". Immediately they will be attacked by dozens of people. And the attacks will not be about politics, but about religion. They will say "but Obama wants to kill babies!" "If you vote for Obama or any of the loony hate America hate God left then I question your salvation." "Watch her pray! She is truly a sister!" Etc.. etc..

For a person who truly believes they are trying to be a good Christian to be attacked like that is scary. They feel that their own kind is sending them off to exile so to speak, sort of an emotional excommunication from their tribe. I have seen it over and over. People who are good at heart and want to do the right thing get bullied and overwhelmed by the extremists. They follow along in order to be accepted, and eventually they seem to become convinced that God himself would abandon them if they vote outside of the party that claims to be the right hand of God. It is truly shameful IMHO.

30. Possibly. But...
There is a big difference between the two. I get in heated debates on my animal boards over spaying/neutering, for example, but we have to allow people to be their own person and respect their beliefs. Having one's feelings hurt is very different from thinking you are going to hell if you don't follow along. When some poor gal LITERALLY thinks she will spend all eternity in hell (not just be banned from the board) because of how she votes, how can you even argue with or reach that mindset? And they teach that "believers" should only listen to other "believers". It can be a mental prison and whichever group (politcial or otherwise) that can grab tight enough to it will control the masses.

22. Because she's mean-spirited and mean-mouthed and Repubs identify with that.
Do you honestly think if she had stood up there and given a speech on the issues and sounded like a well-informed politician, if she had shown respect to Obama and Biden, do you think for one moment they would have given a flip about Sarah Palin?

Noooo. They like her because they can sit at home and pretend to be "good Christians" while she's out there doing their dirty work for them.

And another thing, probably the most important thing: They don't have to admit that they won't vote for Obama because of the color of his skin. Sarah Palin has given them a publicly-acceptable reason to shun Obama and vote for the deficient McCain instead.

31. She's telegenic. Reminds them of a sit com star.
She's being marketed like that. Spunky little maverick who stood up to the big guys. Facts don't matter. Evidence that she supported the Bridge to Nowhere until it became publicly unpopular doesn't matter.

People dig the branding and I guess they figure that, like with Dubya, other people can run the government and she can do the photo ops.

Let's hope we can penetrate the facades so that voters see the diehard Republicans behind the maverick costuming.
