Palin: I'd Oppose Abortion Even If My Own Daughter Was Raped

I know I'm being a sexist and am being unfair when I discuss anything but glowing praise for Sarahcudda, but her own words should damn her in an ad... Gibson better ask her the same question...

In November 2006, then gubernatorial candidate Sarah Palin declared that she would not support an abortion for her own daughter even if she had been raped.

Granting exceptions only if the mother's life was in danger, Palin said that when it came to her daughter, "I would choose life."

At the time, her daughter was 14 years old. Moreover, Alaska's rape rate was an abysmal 2.2 times above the national average and 25 percent of all rapes resulted in unwanted pregnancies. But Palin's position was palatable within the state's largely Republican political circles.

Now that she's John McCain's vice presidential candidate, Palin's abortion policy (among others) is undergoing renewed scrutiny. The Alaska Republican has long declared herself pro-life. And her credentials on the topic make her the belle of the ball among religious conservatives. But Democrats and abortion rights advocates say her stance, specifically her unwillingness to grant her own child a choice to end a pregnancy induced by rape, is drastically at odds with public opinion -- even among many Republicans.

"This is absolutely outside the mainstream. Even in South Dakota they rejected in '06 because it has gone too far and everyone can identify that in a case of rape or incest a woman should have the chance to make the decision with their family or doctor," said Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro Choice America. "Women voters are going to reject both her and John McCain, and I think we see it specifically because we reach out to Republicans and independent pro-choice women. They live in the suburbs and exurbs. They are very much part of the mainstream America. And woman in general will reject that ticket."

1. I guess that she proves that there is a choice. She should allow everyone
to have one.

3. That;s disgusting.
She would oppose abortion even if her husband raped her daughter and the baby had a condition that would cause it to die a month after birth.

She is a sick sick person. Radical fringe.

5. So Palin supports the rapists' right to choose the mother of their baby.

18. Those that are against abortion including instances of rape and incest are infinitesimal
She is a wackjob.

Anyone who has a daughter and/or has a brain would detest such garbage. There are enough pro-choice women that would be petrified of having someone like Palin within a heartbeat of the Presidency. Due to Palin's outrageously concocted view on abortion, the Democrats could stand to GAIN a lot from Palin's view.

This should be common news for all voters.

8. I am the mother of a daughter
and can't even imagine what sort of sicko would say to a state-wide or national audience that they would essentially force their daughter to have her rapist's child. I can't imagine how I would have felt as a teenage young woman if my mother went around saying this to people. It's terrible.

9. This has always been her position
Many people won't be surprised by this. How about highlighting all the earmarks she's received while she lies on the trail and says she is against? There are so many ways to go after her on policy that the general public is not even aware of?

10. It's nice to know that Sarah Palin feels she's in a position to know what is right and wrong for all
of the women in the world. I guess she thinks she's qualified to be an arbiter. One has to wonder how she attained such self-declared power...

I think Joe Biden said it best...he's not in a position to tell others what to do based on his own personal feelings, because someone else might have even stronger religious convictions than he has.

The last time religion and government got together, we had hangings in the town square. I'd imagine most Americans would not want to see a repeat of that.

Government needs to get out of America's bedrooms, and make our lives better, not regulate them.

12. And, with her support of parental consent laws, Palin would be in
favor of having a teenager raise her baby in the same home as her rapist.

13. Charlie Gibson should ask this
The same question that stumped McSame earlier this year about why viagra is covered by medicare, but women can't get the morning after pill. She would have a hard time answering without upsetting some pharma people, or women voters.

19. Obviously we're scared of her, but what about...
the rest of the US? She doesn't match the views of the majority on most issues, but as long as the MSM fawns over her, the issues (and her positions on them) go to the back burner.

About rapists.

So, according to Palin, any man who wants a child (but has no wife or girlfriend) can impregnate ANY WOMAN HE CHOOSES and BE GUARANTEED A SON OR DAUGHTER.

The woman is irrelevant.

21. Honestly that is one of the scariest things I have ever read...
Near where I live a woman was raped in her own home. The man who did this was so violent in his rape that her internal organs were damaged beyond repair. He was just sentenced to only 8 years. Under Palin, if that woman had been impregnated by this monster she would have been forced to bring the pregnancy to term, even with her injuries I assume. I want to throw up.

24. Not only that, but if Todd Palin raped his daughter, Sarah Palin would want her to have the baby.
That's an ugly sentence, but sometimes the truth is ugly. "Rape and incest" means just that. Disgusting.

25. Make this a Michael Dukakis moment in reverse.
This SHOULD be a fair-game question at the debate, and the moderators should not let up until she gives an unequivocal answer and can back it up with solid reasons...if that's possible.
