Obama "gaffe" reignites Muslim ((((rumor)))) goes Mainstream to feed the rabid wingnuts
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 11:23 AM by DogPoundPup
CHICAGO, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- A spokesman for Sen. Barack Obama's campaign is taking the Chicago Sun-Times to task for reporting on a verbal slip Obama made referring to "my Muslim faith."

The Democratic Party nominee for president was discussing false rumors on ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" when he made the gaffe, the Sun-Times reported Monday.

Obama suggested that GOP rival Sen. John McCain was behind false rumors that he is a Muslim. Stephanopoulos then reminded him that McCain denied spreading the rumors.

"You're absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith," Obama said before Stephanopoulos corrected him.

The Sun-Times says the verbal slip unleashed a barrage of Internet attacks, becoming a magnet for comments on the YouTube.com video site.

"Printing a blogger suspecting that Obama is a Muslim is pretty irresponsible and below the standards that we're used to out of the Sun-Times," Obama spokesman Bill Burton wrote in an e-mail message to the newspaper.

6. Some do.
I am monitoring such a site. I'm thinking about taking the time and compiling a list of sites for them to check out about their darlin' Sarah. But in the end I'm afraid it will be a huge waste of my time, because they are all definitely convinced that Obama is a Muslim, and all Muslims want us dead, and that Obama will outlaw all Christian religion....same old shit.

Palin is pro-life and just cute as a button to boot, that is where it begins and ends, everything else be damned.

Modern-day flat-earthers scare me and repulse me all at the same time.

I wonder: How can they simultaneously claim him to be Muslim AND a follower of Wright? They can't have it both ways.

This email rumor has been going on since the primaries:

I especially love it juxtaposed over the Rev. Wright "thing." Makes all kinds of sense, apparently, to the loons.

14. Oh no. I blocked MSNBC on my cable.
If I want to watch any of their shows, I'm going to have to enter a passcode.

And I despise Gregory, so I certainly won't be jumping through any hoops to watch his piece of shit show (pardon my French).

10. Jim Wooten concern-trolls on this topic in today's AJC editorial
He even offers helpful advice!

Obama continues to be bedeviled by questions about his religion, something I picked up repeatedly from people who aren’t political junkies. It’s not surprising that Obama lashed out on that issue Sunday. He can’t shake the believe that he is a Muslim, the religion of his father and religion of at least part of his childhood.

Obama badly needs to do something to shake that perception. A major speech, addressing it head-on, is warranted.

15. :sigh: We saw this coming yesterday
It was an unfortunate gaffe, but doesn't really mean anything at the end of the day. But the GOP is going to make hay with it to stoke fears. They can't win fairly, so they will resort to lies and smears to make their case.

18. Stephanopoulis did not "correct" Obama. There was no "gaffe".
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 12:38 PM by wurzel
They were talking about the lie being spread that Obama is a Muslim. And Obama said that Stephanopoulis was right that McCain had not talked about Obama's Muslim faith. Stephanopoulis said "you mean your Christian faith". And Obama said no I mean he has never talked about my being a Muslim. There was no "Gaffe". If Obama had meant to say "Christian Faith" the conversation would have made no sense.
