Chuck Todd (political analyst, MSNBC) predicting this election could go to Electoral College...
and there could be statewide recounts. Amazing how fast they are setting this up based on a couple days of polls that seem favorable to McCain/Palin, isn't it. Mark Crispin Miller and others seem to have read the cards correctly for November. They will steal it again... MSNBC and "Chucky T" setting it up in the minds of the viewers right now.

Disgusting.

1. Don't all elections go to the electoral college?
As for recounts, bring 'em on - when the votes are counted accurately, we tend to win.

2. Do you mean the House of Representatives? If so,
I've got to agree. I've been thinking this for the last few days, since Palin's speech. This could potentially be closer than 2000. The good thing this year is we control the House.

6. Yes...so close in the Electoral College...recounts and then to House...
To say that so early means it's the new "meme."

10. and will probably be more like 56 - 60 seat majority in January
although, I think the "old" congress with the 36 seat majority is the one that would act on this, IIRC from 2000.

17. That's not how it works - it's one vote for each state
First, of course, they would try to get electoral college members to flip since some states (maybe half) do not have laws that actually require them to vote for the person with the highest popular vote in their state.

Then, if it is still a tie in the electoral college, each state gets one vote in the House of Representatives - whether it is California or Wyoming. That vote would be determined by a majority of the state's members of the House. So, for intance, in the case of NJ which has a 7-6 Dem majority in the House, it would cast 1 vote for Obama.

You would have to calculate what states have Dem majorities and what states have Repub majorities to figure out who would possibly win. Right now I think though Dems have the majority of the whole house the Repubs still control more states.

32. It's not a normal vote - but we very likely win
each state delegation gets one vote.

"If the election of the president goes to the House, each state has one vote. New York with 29 Congressmen gets one vote and Idaho with one Congressman gets the same one vote. Members of Congress from each state caucus and decide who gets their state’s vote. If the delegation is tied, no vote is cast. To be elected, the victor must win a majority of the states (26)."

<snip>

"For the current Congress, Democrats control 27 state delegations, Republicans control 20 and three are tied. Any election for president would be conducted in the new House elected in November 2008. It is certainly possible that control of some delegations could change as a result of the 2008 election as some delegations are divided almost evenly."

Sorry for the Fox link, but it is clearly written and matches what I remember from quizzing my daughter last year for HS Government class.

The "likely" is because it is the new Congress and is just to be absolutely accurate.

Not sure what you're implying here -- are you really saying that Chuck Todd's playful chatter is part of some
right-wing scheme? Uh, if things went to the House, Democrats would win the Presidency.

9. He's not "predicting", he's HOPING...
the media want controversy, long-drawn-out-if-implausible-scenarios, and you'll hear as much BS in the future as you have in the past from media people hoping for chaos.

But instead of worrying over the media acting like the dumbasses they are --

IF you actually want to affect the election --

get down to your local campaign office and start registering voters, stuffing envelopes, calling people.

12. Yes Please !! I want time for recounts. No quick concessions please.
I AM VERY MUCH IN FAVOR of being prepared for statewide recounts. That will protect Democrats, too. We can call for recounts, too. We need time to analyze and investigate vote manipulation reports from polling places nationwide. Republicans used multiple methods to obstruct Democratic voting in Ohio 2004.

Democrats were too chicken last time to demand recounts when election manipulation techniques were observed by multiple witnesses. Told complainers not to be "conspiracy theorists."

I certainly want Democrats now to be comfortable with potential delays for recounts. I don't want a quick concession that is followed six months later, with a report on several ways in which the election was manipulated by Republican party operatives.

YES PLEASE GIVE US TIME TO RECOUNT AND REVIEW all election results and polling place practices !!

Yes, it's quite possible Republicans have some kinds of recount vote manipulation strategies developed. They were probably expecting Democrats to become more vigilant this time, and have worked out ways to manipulate those possibilities to their advantage, so it would be wise to study RNC comments on the possibility further.

13. Trying to steal it... except you can't steal every state.
Yes the old white racist guard is going to try to steal it accept there are states who won't play ball that way. Those are the states that Obama, if he gets them in his column can win him this election regardless of what traditionally "prone to theft" states will do.

19. If there is a toss up election yet again, there will riots in the streets.
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 01:03 PM by David Zephyr
I am not advocating it, but isn't it obvious?

There will not be an acceptance of the theft of an election by a white man from a black man.

McCain had better win fair and square and by an obvious margin, or what happened in Minnesota will be tame to what will happen across this nation.

And it won't be African-Americans in the streets which is what some might think, but it will be with a majority of whites as well.

Think Seattle.

Seattle was a preview of what I am talking about.

If the media spent less time hypothesizing about stuff and more time in reporting actual facts, some parts of this country would be in much better shape.

26. Palm Beach County can't find all of its ballots from recent election
they just flat out cannot account for all of the ballots.

See articles about it in the Election Reform forum.

I am worried, very worried.

Also in Broward County they threatened to arrest Ellen Brodsky if she
came in the warehouse to witness the recount of "undervotes" and "overvotes".

Guess cause in 04 she went to that warehouse and saw thousands of absentee ballots in
the trash can.
